Because i dont read this topic everyday to look for technical problems about installing tdm,
(which are needed to move to / or posted to the tdm tech support subforum)

Here are some delayed answers:

First of all: Please post all your technical problems to tdm tech support subforum. Thanks.

I've launched tdmupdate.exe, it downloaded and installed its own new version (which, I guess, would then download and install 2.04).
However, when the updater tried to restart itself, it crashed with an error message saying "This is not a 32-bit Windows application." Further attempts to manually start it result in "Access denied."
What's the deal? Did you make the new updater version a 64-bit only app? What about The Dark Mod itself? If that's still 32-bit, then how can I update it now? If the game itself is 64-bit now, then... you've just dumped me.

In topics at tdm techsupport subforum, people and I discovered that TDM-updater 0.65 doesnt run on Windows XP. (earlier versions working fine)
You updated tdm updater to 0.65, so you have to downgrade the updater to 0.64. (Until they compiled 0.65 with xp compability).

Run my installer or follow the following steps to downgrade tdm updater to 0.64 and update TDM:

  • Download "The Dark Mod 2.02-2.03 Update Package (Windows)" from moddb,
  • Extract only tdm_update to your TDM folder
  • Set the full access permission on your tdm folder (see following instruction)
  • start updater.
  • select advanced options
  • select checkbox "no-selfupdate"
  • and run the updater.
  • Repeat steps 4 trough 7, until you have updated TDM.

The folder has the read-only attribute set, and Windows refuses to unset it, not even with the attrib -r command in cmd.exe. However, I CAN manually move files out of and back into the folder.

You need to change this atribute in another tab named "security".
(Right-click on your tdm folder, options > select tab "security" > click on the "edit" button > select group "users" (or something like that) > select checkbox "full control" > ok > ok)

My installer will run the above solutions automatically.

That's the one I found, and the first link in the post (which sounds like the one I need) says "This site has been disabled for violations of our Terms of Service. If you feel this disabling was in error, please fill in our appeal form."

My google site is blocked by google, because i hosted the tdm installer and other files. (google dont allow that)
So I moved my portfolio, files and sourcecode to freyk.wordpress.com , google drive and github.com/freyk22
When my tdm-installer for windows (beta) is marked "stable", TDM will host this on their site.

Does this update fix food not restoring health? If so why is it not in the changelog?

That will be fixed in 2.05.

Edit: I checked the bugtracker issue. A change was submitted to cover this, but it's incomplete. Also, the change as it is wasn't picked up for 2.04.

Hey, have been away for a while, both from the game, and these forums. Just wanted to say grats to releasing this update, it's great, especially the "grab stuff without clunking" thing is a real improvement. Just briefly tested it in the Crucible of Omens prologue mission. Fortunately, i also got rid of the lag issues i was experiencing in Windows 10 with The Dark Mod. No idea what it was, or what fixed it, but it's not there now anymore. Must have been a Windows update or something.

How does the update play on Crucible Omens?

It fixes the error that doesn't let the mission be completed for the debriefing.

"I really perceive that vanity about which most men merely prate — the vanity of the human or temporal life. I live continually in a reverie of the future. I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active — not more happy — nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago. The result will never vary — and to suppose that it will, is to suppose that the foregone man has lived in vain — that the foregone time is but the rudiment of the future — that the myriads who have perished have not been upon equal footing with ourselves — nor are we with our posterity. I cannot agree to lose sight of man the individual, in man the mass."

- 2 July 1844 letter to James Russell Lowell from Edgar Allan Poe.

Could this still be an issue? I have version 2.04, and i can't finish the mission either. Or was there a mission update i missed or something?

Quick question: Are there still any issues with downloading and installing 2.04 via the TDM updater ?

Everything went fine for me back when I updated to 2.03, but all these reports about updating not working are making me worried.

Its fine for the majority of users, where the odd use is having an issue is where the folder there are putting TDM into is set to read only - this is a bug/feature of windows not the mod.

It seems that some folks are getting stuck in a little loop. The solution is to open the Advanced options in tdm_updater and select "keep mirrors" and "do not allow tdm_update to update itself". The second one is the key. Somehow (sometimes) tdm_updater doesn't recognize itself under windows.

Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod:

(Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

I really can not say enough how especially the new AI search behaviour has an huge impact on gameplay! I no longer have to stand around in the shadow while the guard just turns on the spot with the sword drawn looking for me. Now they finally do an active search like they did back in Thief 1 already. I absolutely LOVE this new feature since it creates a much more intense feeling and the possibility to get catched even in the shadows or to get around the guard that is searching in the wrong corner.

Thank you so much, I love it!

Yeah, I wish I could help out doing something cool like programming the AI. It's giving so much life to the game! :)

I posted about it before, but I think the default tdm logo video looks outdated. For a (i.m.o.) better looking version, you can download the pk4 attached to this post and plonk it in your tdm root folder. Every mission that starts with the tdm logo then starts with the better looking one. Try for example mission COS1 Pearls and Swine.

I finished DOOM - The Dark Ages the other day. It is a decent shooter, but not as great as its predecessors, especially because of the soundtrack.
