  1. Hi. The OpenTouchGaming team, which I represent, would like to know the developers' opinion about the TDM port on android devices. How will they react to the fact that their game will be transferred to portable devices? Would they mind? In what form would they like to see their project; an APK that downloads everything need by itself? Or Just an APK with an engine?(the user himself must upload the necessary data to his device) I'm not a developer, but I know he can port a lot of games to android. Ports of Doom and Quake are already available, as well as ports of games on the Build engine. We also know about rendering, it will not be as easy to do it as with Doom 3, and it will require more resources in hardware. We believe that someday "darkness will cover the staffers with its veil" and on the mobile platform. This is not an announcement of a finished project, but just the beginning of development, if there is something to show in future, I will definitely post it here. Thanks and see in the shadows.
  2. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  3. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  4. For some reason, DR (v2.14.0 on Windows 10) now crashes on startup for me. I don't even get as far as being able to open up my .map file. Things I've tried: uninstalling/reinstalling installing an older version (2.13.0) - this crashes as well. installing to a different location I'm a bit stumped - it was working totally fine up until a couple of hours ago. Could someone please help - my holidays have just started and I planned to do a lot of work on my map over the next couple of weeks I've uploaded a crash dump here: https://drive.protonmail.com/urls/E48HXR3P5M#QRHycXMjP8cG NOTE: The other day I created a bug report for a crash while using the source control feature, but this (I think) unrelated as like I mentioned I don't even get to open the map file. I'm happy to open a bug report, but as it seems very strange I think it would be impossible to reproduce for anyone so will hold off for now unless someone tells me otherwise. UPDATE: I think I've got it working again. I had to get DR into a state where I could edit the preferences (basically by deleting everything in '\AppData\Roaming\DarkRadiant'), and turning off 'Enable Auto-Fetch' seemed to do the trick. So I guess it was something to do with the version control. After playing around a bit, it looks like it is because I had changed the visibility of my Github project to 'private' a few minutes before it crashed for the first time. Turning it back to public makes the problem go away. I think once DR starts and if the current FM path includes a Git repository it will attempt a fetch immediately, hence the startup crash (if the repo is private). I will raise a bug report.
  5. Just wondering who the most infamous Necromancer is lorewise. Was there a founder in the art of Necromancy, like a Lich or something, similar to Nagash in Warhammer or the Lich King in Warcraft? Some sort of evil magician gathering power in a far off land, building his legions for a showdown with the Empire?
  6. So I got back to my desktop and installed the dark mod 2.09a, but when I start it I get a gray screen for a couple of seconds then a black screen. I can hear the music and the menu sounds when I move my mouse but I can't see anything. I tried some things from what I could see in the forums but nothing worked. I have a pretty old GPU but it should run it no problem I believe (a Radeon hd 4850). Things i tried: -Downloading the latest dev build -Downloading the build test15973-8787 -changing glcore from 2 to 1 and to 0 -changing the resolution to 800x600 -starting it in compatibility mode windows 7 -changing glsl -changing shadow to 0 - downloading an executable posted by stgatilov in a post about the same problem (I can't find it anymore) None of this worked and the log file doesn't show any issues. Any idea how to fix this or if I need an older version, because I believe the GPU should be able to launch the game properly at least?
  7. Hi, Ive been taffing away for years but have taken a forced hiatus, due to some over zealous hammers, but am now back. Anyway Im having some issues installing The Dark Mod and last night tryied twice but both times failed with missing 'chunks' ? or some error similair. Toaday it seems to be going along ok , 27 mins left but i notice on task manager that it keeps hanging ! Not Responding !!! but a few seconds pass and its flicks to Responding again, but this is occuring every 10 secs or so... what gives ?
  8. Hello, I'm trying to install The Dark Mod using the installer from here: https://www.thedarkmod.com/download-the-mod/ but it's taking forever to download the game. Is there some sort of a mirror or a torrent version? Thanks.
  9. I'd been chasing down a persistent and annoying leak without cause. The map had been fine this morning and compiled. Later had this going on. Every previous version I tried had the same problem. So in an attempt to solve it, I loaded TDM, loaded a different map, went back to my map, did a cleanup and then installed my map. Go to dmap my latest v162 not found, v161 gone, 160, 159, 158 etc etc check the folder and it's all gone, all folders, models, textures scrpts everything is gone! 3 weeks work lost and no explanation as to how it can do this???? I've been working for 4 to 6 hours a day for 3 weeks. OMG I've lost so much! How can TDM Do this????? I tried winfr data recovery but it always comes up empty, not really sure how that works. I used to be right up with DOS. Is there no way to get it back? This has to be fixed!!!
  10. Hey, I'm having a problem running TDM 2.07, I can't run newer versions due to Opengl as version 2.08 won't even start. But using version 2.07 that I found on Moddb, I can at least start the game and start some missions. The problem is with shadows and lighting, I can't actually see much of anything as the shadows keep flickering in a weird way. I will upload a screenshot that will hopefully explain the issue better than I can. I tried changing most if not all the settings in-game but I cannot get it to run properly. Any ideas how I can fix this or what version of the game can run on my laptop? I'm running it on a pretty old laptop but I believe it has the necessary "graphic" chipset i.e an Intel HD 3000.
  11. Check this out: 1. It says my TDM Password has been leaked, but more importantly, 2. How does it know my Dark Mod password? Are they not encrypted??? 3. Noticed it picked up some of the passwords on my phone as well. WTF is going on here? How do they know this? Neon
  12. Hello dear people of The Dark Mod A question about the code of this lovely game. Is every bits of The Dark Mod code open sourced? And under which license? If not all and every file, then which files are open and which not? A question I could probably find out myself but if you want you may answer: what engine do you use and how easy is it for newcomers to start working on code, assets etc? Does it have to be done through the community or can we also work on our own - Is it allowed to just download/copy code and start creating things for myself? And a side question: does the TDM community have a Discord server? Thank you for clarifying. Yours mouser
  13. Greetings everyone! I recently got into TDM and am already having a lot of fun playing through and ghosting missions. However, coming from Thief, I am mostly relying on the rules and my experience with that game, while there are clearly differences in how TDM works. Right now, there is talk in the ghosting discussion thread on TTLG to amend the ruleset and include clarifications pertaining to TDM. So I wanted to drop by and ask: is there an active TDM ghosting community already and have any rules for this playstyle been developed? I would also like to ask someone to take a look at the draft of this addendum to see whether everything looks correct: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487&page=16&p=2473352&viewfull=1#post2473352 Thanks!
  14. Didn't Komag have a tutorial to get you going on the right track or was that for Thief 2? I opened DR & the user guide, but I'm at a loss. I have totally forgotten how the whole thing works. I know someone had a tutorial for DR. I built a room and hallway, put some torches & furniture in, made Garrett's starting point. Stuff like that. Brushes & skyboxes. But when it came to flowing water that old system crashed over & over, so I gave up (10 years ago). Water was very important to that mission idea. This time not so much. Just one olympic size pool with a greek backdrop Filling it should be interesting this time around. If that works I'll also put in the horse fountain, if I can ask for help in creating it. It was bronze with 4 horses & stuff. There's a pic of it at the Newburgh library in New York. Well, back in 1987. It got 'lost', the fountain itself. My butt, it either got melted down or put up somewhere else. The thing was like 6 tons alI in all. Doubt it's online. Was gonna try to find the blueprints to the mansion in some historical place. It was built 1774. It's gone now. They tore it all down & built condos. Luckily I got photo-memory, so I remember the whole lay out as if I was there yesterday. Back in 1992 I built a 'smaller' scale bird house of the main house & the 4 wings. The birds liked it
  15. When having a dark theme applied in Linux, text in the Properties and console window is hard to see because it is black text on a dark window background (the same text color when light theme applied). Is there a way to change this text color manually?
  16. Just updated to 2.09 from 2.08 and this is what I get after opening darkmodx64 icon. I updated as usual, I did not click on any advanced options. I tried to update again and got the same thing. Any ideas on what went wrong?
  17. Hello everyone, Firstly, and at the risk of seeming dishonnest for starting this with compliments considering what I'm gonna ask in this topic, I'd like to congratulate every one involved in creating "The Painter's Wife": all of you did an incredible work, at Thief 2 "Life of the Party"'s level of quality and even better yet in that there are a few occurences where the ambiance varies, with different "tones" evoking different feelings in one same big mission -that specter was chilling, especially its disturbing "voice(s)", congrats to everyone involved in its creation ! I haven't had the possibility to try other missions yet, since according to what I've read a SSD must always have ~20% of its capacity left free for and my SSD is at 40Go left before going full, but of the couple of "one-shot missions" I've tried for the moment, The Painter's Wife stands out, with Sir Taffsalot's Sword being a great hommage to the member of your forum that made this sad decision. Now, the heart of the matter. I'm 39, handicapped and almost unemployable due to both my handicap and my professional life at this point, too weird for the local anal-retentive standards on a job resume. That's why I decided to create a video game. No less... but since I'm very roughly "the Richard Halliwell / Sheldon Pacotti-kind of guy", having been creating homemade tabletop wargame & RPG rules as well as fictional universes since the last 20 years, and being aware of what can and cannot be done after modding various games until now, I know I can make it. I have my back against the wall anyway, so it's almost not like if I have a choice After months of hard thinking and spent reading all the documentation I could find about the Id Tech 4 engine, I think that using Dark Radiant as an engine is the way to go for me: I'm in favor of free software in the GNU sense of the word, I want my game to also be a modding platform where everything needed to create a FPS-RPG is already built-up by making all my RPG game design systems usable freely by anyone by releasing all of that intellectual property, fictional universe of the game included, under a Creative Commons license, as a way of sticking the finger to what the video game industry has become -DLCs and all these scams like disc-locked content that'd be made illegal in 5 seconds if it concerned any other industries, I scream your name with reeee-ing rage. So here's the question I'd like to ask to the ones here that have built Dark Radiant / The Dark Mod: would you allow me to use it as a base on which to build my game ? (bolding and italics just to make the question stand out from that wall of text) Knowing that of course, my game will be sold: the price I'll be asking is for the whole universe and game systems I've created, I'm not aiming to "make money on your efforts" of course. If my understanding is correct, Dark Radiant is a fork of the Id Tech 4 and includes enhancements not present in the original basic Id Tech 4, so using TDM / Dark Radiant as a base will allow me to save a precious time during the development instead of re-beginning a new engine from scratch, that's why I'm asking. In exchange, everything I plan to add to "my fork" of the Dark Radiant Engine will be freely available for everyone and thus re-usable for The Dark Mod, which means including not just my game design sub-systems for gunfights, for stealth, for dialogue simulation etc but also everything that I plan to implement, such as for instance procedurally generated faces for npcs like Far Cry 2 did, as well as all the 3D models I'd have commissioned during development, etc. But only, of course, after the release of the game. I may also contract various people here for work I can't afford to take the time to learn on my own, by the way: programming, 3D models, and animations, mostly. Who is interested ? Hoping this topic will receive quick replies 'cause the clock is kinda ticking for me these days professionally-wise, I wish to anyone having read until this point to have a nice day, and if you've spotted grammatical mistakes in what I wrote, please let me know, English is not my maternal language so even if I write fluently I'm not beyond progressing yet -actually as long as I won't pass as a native I won't be satisfied
  18. Hi there, I'm not really sure this is the right place, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved, the developpers who keep improving tdm, the fantastic missions creators, and the people managing the web site and infrastructure for the game. This game has given me countless hours of amazing joy, you are all fantastic people !
  19. There's no forum feedback section, so I post it here. So I think the Dark forum theme is not dark enough (for me) and some of the graphics are not good. So I did some css edits and implemented these on the forum via the Stylus plugin for Firefox (or Chrome). There are other solutions to directly alter forum css, but I will not go into that for now. To make it look properly you have to first activate the default dark theme of this forum (which is weird enough not the default theme), if you've not done that yet (scroll to the bottom middle part of the forum, where there's a pulldown menu called theme). Here is my current code: You can try it out and see how it looks. It also improves the looks of the like buttons on the side. I keep tweaking it and updating this post, so it might not completely look like in the supplied screenshots. Summery of extra custom edits that are more opinionated:
  20. Hello, I get a dark radiant crash every time I try to use Connection > Update entities on every change I do the following steps: 1. Start TDM, load map with console command "map anol" 2. Enter in console "com_automation 1", windows firewall request was accepted the first time (no other firewall is running) 3. Start dark radiant and load corresponding map fms/anol/maps/anol.map 4. Activate "Game position follows dark radiant camera" > camera synchronisation is working 5. Change an entity and use Connection > Update entities now > working without problems 6. Activate Connection > Update entities on every change 7. As soon as any entity is moved, dark radiant crashes by directly closing without giving an error on the desktop When this happens, TDM prints the following in the console: HotReload: SUCCESS ERROR: idTCP::Read: WSAECONNRESET Automation lost connection I'm using TDM 2.09/64 #9108 and Dark radiant 2.11.0 x64 Build date Jan 29 2021 13:59:57 Please help! If you need any more info (logfiles or anything like that) please tell me where to find it.
  21. Hi all, As the title suggests, I cannot run the dark mod. After installing, I run the 64 bit exe (there is no 32 bit exe) and the game freezes just after the cursor appears. Windows 10 then says the program is not responding. Have tried looking around the forums and changed various cfg values and tried using compatibility settings to no avail. My machine is a Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop with the standard Intel HD onboard graphics card and 4gb ram. I have tried updating and reinstalling to no success. Any thoughts? I have pretty standard hardware and can't understand the issue.
  22. 1. Cu r_useNewBackend 1 = rău, și cu r_useNewBackend 0 = bun. 2. Nu pot seta o rezoluție mai mică (de exemplu, 1366x768) în fullscreen. Acesta rămâne pe rezoluția nativă a laptopului (1920x1080). 3. Specificații laptop.
  23. We are proud to announce the release of The Dark Mod 2.09! https://www.thedarkmod.com/posts/the-dark-mod-2-09-has-been-released/ TDM 2.09 marks a new phase of performance improvements aimed lowering CPU overhead in the graphics engine. A whole new graphic backend has been created by Cabalistic which uses modern OpenGL features to eliminate the need for the CPU to constantly issue commands to allow the Graphic Processor to render scenes. This gives TDM some of the performance advantages of rendering using a low level API like Vulkan. Stgatilov has been very busy this release cycle. He has put heroic efforts into improving the way that TDM upgrades and hosting operate in addition to the vast improvements to TDM itself. (He also refactored the entire particle engine and created a link system to connect TDM to Dark Radiant.) A full changelog can be viewed here, but some highlights include: Better performance: A brand new Backend that uses UBO, Persistent Mapping, Bindless textures, and Multi-Draw has been added. “Frontend Acceleration” (Multi-Core job based rendering based on Doom 3 BFG) now works as expected. Normal Map compression now uses RGTC resulting in lower storage, VRAM requirements, and less artifacts ( load times should improve in future TDM versions when pre-compressed RGTC textures are added ) Background texture loading has improved. This should shorten load times and reload. Better visuals: A new Sharpening Filter has been added. It can make 70% Render Scale look almost like native resolution (more performance). ( It also cleans up some blurry textures for all Render Scales. ) Bumpmap lighting is smoother, so that lighting does not instantly flip to off when getting close to edges of occluded objects. Particle physics have been substantially improved for both accuracy and performance. Borderless Fullscreen works properly on Windows. Water and other GUI effects that did not respond to Gamma now brighten properly. AMD and Intel fixes have been added for SSAO rendering Better gameplay: Experimental Gamepad support has been added. Creep works in alway-run mode Better mapping: A new linking system allows The Dark Mod to act as a real-time preview of Dark Radiant The redesigned particles now have improved setup and configuration. Automated fixes have been created for “rotation hacked” models Prefabs have been seen numerous fixes and reorganization to make them easier to use Better Sound: Conversation and other sounds are no longer stopped by saving or going to main menu. EFX reverb has been added to “Mission 1: A New Job” Extinguished gas lamps are no longer noisy when doused New Assets: Dragofer, LDAsh, Kingsal, Bikerdude, Dram have all added substantial asset updates ranging from updated Werebeast animations, animation of the steam engine, fireflies and new furniture. More stable: A huge number of fragile code areas have been overhauled to either fix crashes or prevent likely crashes due to risk of divide by zero, uninitialized values, or dangling pointers (leftover settings) on entities and functions. We recommend that you upgrade using the new “tdm_installer” available here. Please be aware that old saved games will not be compatible with 2.09, so finish any missions you might be in the middle of first!
