1. Who I am is of little importance, what matters is the job I am offering. Though the item in question may be simple, I can assure you that the reward is anything but. The task, to those brave enough to follow through, is this: During the peak of Braeden's Harvest Festival, break into Lord Alister Squashbottom's manor and steal that which is most valuable to him: his prize-winning pumpkin. This is the very pumpkin he intends on submitting to the judges of this year's competition, and you are to ensure he has no choice but to resign in failure. It may be dangerous, to which you will be amply compensated, but I have little doubt you will be able to weather all obstacles and keep your eye on the prize to complete this task. For those brave enough to accept the job, start here. Cordially, E. Siltstone Gameplay Notes TDM version 2.12 is required to play this mission. Mines are pickable; simply approach them with lockpicks equipped to frob-disarm. A moss arrow can be shot at glass to make it break more quietly. I recommend playing all three difficulties, as they are very different. This FM may be more hardware intensive than normal. LOD settings can be set below "Normal" to improve performance on low-end machines. Download Version 1.0 - This FM is available here via Google Drive, and will soon be made available via the in-game mission downloader. 2. I wasn't really thinking about cohesiveness. i was trying to give the game a more Golden touch like in DXHR. I'm using Cinetool Lut which has many options for color combination. Each one makes the game look and feel different and it's a great Reshade Tool.
3. Since I'm bored and haven't posted in a while and yet still finished Thief 4 a few times, I feel compelled to post. In response to a number of observations @Rio_Walker made: Seeing your hands and all the animations newGarrett would do was fun... at first. But given all the looting and environmental interactions the game has it really did slow things down a lot, especially when the game would occasionally realign the player just perfectly before playing an animation to open a drawer. If they had an option to disable these animations or speed them up significantly I'd have been happy. I've played using the Custom difficulty with the option to disable focus and the experience is kinda mixed. While it does make things a bit more traditional without the superpower ability to find loot more easily, it does seem like the game is designed very much for focus and disabling it can hide things you never even knew were present. If it weren't for the focus for example, I would never have noticed the "special" candles hidden around the city that talk when you light them. This game reminds me of a movie that has been reshot several times with footage from separate reshoots blended together with bad editing. It's painfully clear the story has been chopped and changed over the many years of its development and there's assets in the game that clearly had greater importance in a previous iteration but for which their plot points were cut. The most obvious example is the automatons. There's a dude who provides missions on obtaining pieces for one he's building, but apart from that there's also signs in other areas they had more importance (e.g. you see rooms full of them when going up an elevator, the Baron has disassembled ones on tables in his cutscene, etc.) Some plot elements just feel not fleshed out because they had to cobble together something to create this Frankenstein's monster of a game from so many elements. The ending sucks and is incredibly abrupt. Do we even know what the deal is with that half-built ship? Probably another abandoned plot point. With all of its problems, I still kinda like it in so far as its general gameplay. But it doesn't have the longevity of something like TDM or the classic Thief games especially with all the user missions available for them. Oh well, maybe I'm just pining for what it could have been in the hands of a better developer.
4. I havent tried in 2.11 yet but I will. Just an update on this. For now I think I fixed it by: - Addressing most of the warning in the log above. Outside common errors like some missing textures and such that are part of the core. - Made sure to give my parallel lights "parallelSky " "1" spawnarg. - Deleted my .aas files and rebuilt them - Dmapped the entire thing Right now I am not getting the load error . It's a very hard problem to nail down because the console isn't giving a specific script name that it's getting hung up on (if that is even the issue similar to Amadeus's problem) AND I am actively working on the mission, creating new errors, fixing other broken things. ect. Its definitely something I fear will pop back up in beta testing though
5. Hi! Basically, I made these changes purely for myself, but suddenly someone will be interested in playing with them in the same way. 1) Tweaked Lightgem Cleaner Design: I've streamlined the Lightgem by removing those small side details. After all, you already know if you're crouched, right? In-Game Look: Check out how it appears in your game: Editor View: Here's a peek from the editor for good measure: Easy Install: Drop the 'x_newlightgem.pk4' file into your game's root directory to install. To remove, simply delete the file. 2) Tweaked HUD Vibrant Upgrade: I've boosted the color intensity of your health and air bars for better visibility. Sharper Look: Redesigned the 'staples' along the edges, cleaned up textures, and added a touch more definition. Installation Note: Unfortunately, .pk4 files weren't playing nicely for this tweak. Simply unzip the included 'dds.rar' archive into your game's root directory. 3) Health\Air Bar Relocation Streamlined HUD: Health bar repositions for easier monitoring. Zero Fuss: No extra settings to mess with. Plays Nice: Works seamlessly with my other mods. How its look: Installation: Download the zzz_ui_settings.pk4 file. Place the file in the game's root directory. Uninstallation: Delete the zzz_ui_settings.pk4 file from the game's root directory. Let me know if you'd like any other tweaks! x_newlightgem.pk4 dds.rar zzz_ui_settings.pk4
6. I have recently installed Dhewm3 (with the Doom 3 demo) and DarkRadiant. I know my way around GTK Radiant and Preditor, so I assumed DarkRadiant would be a walk in the park. However, I'm getting these two problems I never got with the other editors. 1) I have installed DarkRadiant from the package darkradiant-3.7.0-x64.portable.7z. I launched it, configured it to use the Doom 3 demo (Game Type: Doom 3 Demo), selected the folder where the Dhewm3.exe file is located, but it cannot find any textures. 2) If I try to make a test map (a square room with no textures, a player start) and save it, I get an error message that says: "Failed to locate map format module". Subsequently, nothing gets saved. I have pasted the DarkRadiant log at https://pastebin.com/YAGv2u5h . You can see a screenshot showing the problems (error, no textures) at https://imgur.com/a/qVhx4dv. How do I solve these problems?
7. The votings for the game awards 2020 are starting. So, what's your game of the year? Mine is clearly Doom Eternal. On highest difficulty, this game gives you the same feeling of acomplishment as Dark Souls and the likes. This FPS-game just rocks and rolls, both due to gameplay and soundtrack (obiously I also voted for Doom Eternal in the best soundtrack category)! Regarding the other nominees: Yes, TLOU 2 was an interesting experience, but game of the year? NO! Hades: The game would've been better had it been a true rogue-like. The way it is currently implemented, to much grind is involved, so that it fails to motivate me on the long-term. FF VII: Haven't played it, yet, as I am waiting for the PC release, but I have a feeling it might be a strong Game of the Year contender, too. Ghost of Tsushima and Animal Crossing: Don't understand why these would deserve the spot. Scrolling further down, I see that "Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order" (technically a 2019 game) is nominated for best action-adventure. That's a definitive yes from me, as I really loved that game, although I think its chances to win are rather slim next to the other nominees.
8. yes, I can see what I need to do but can't accomplish it. I can't drop the item from inventory, it can't be used on plates or anything in the area... updated to 2.12 and got it to work. might have also been user error
9. that´s why i will give you a patchnotes for version 0.0.7.5 (and in a vid you showed so) Okay - if German was maybe only for settings ?! - then it doesn't matter otherwise? Why eliminated? and a 2GB game with no chance to save - looks ambitious to me Of course - the biggest part will be the engine! - but the game itself ? I'm going to take up the challenge and definitely : I'm going to have a lot of fun ( sure : it's not just "girls that want to have fun" ) CU ! Edit (24.04) Ohhh : I see (no save needed)
10. Ah, pity I wasn't reading the forums back in February. I'm fond of that game, along with Bugbear's other early title, Rally Trophy. I was never too good at FlatOut, but it was always a hoot to play.
11. As the title says, I made an ebuild for The Dark Mod a while ago, figured I might as well post about it here in case anyone here is using Gentoo (or wants to adapt it for other distributions). The game gets installed system-wide and files are symlinked to the user's home directory whenever the game is started after an update (or for the first time), so the game files are only in one location but also users' save states don't conflict. The ebuild itself is here: https://git.sr.ht/~dblsaiko/ebuilds/tree/master/games-rpg/thedarkmod, and you can install the game by enabling my Portage overlay and then emerging the games-rpg/thedarkmod package: # eselect repository enable 2xsaiko # (alternatively, add the repo using layman) # emerge games-rpg/thedarkmod
12. Yes, I would like to find out what the issue is even if the ultimate decision is to use a different library in future. So far I have established that this line in Game.cpp is apparently working (no exception is thrown): // Import the game file into the registry GlobalRegistry().import(fullPath, "", Registry::treeStandard); but this (and any subsequent attempt to getKeyValue) then fails: // Get the engine path _enginePath = getKeyValue(enginePath); I can only think of two hypotheses: It's a timing issue or race condition: the import call is returning but something in libxml2 has not "finalised" the tree so it isn't ready to do XPath queries yet. I don't think there is any asynchronous or threaded code in the libxml2 API but who knows. There's something different about how XPath queries need to be formatted after merging. E.g. perhaps "//game" no longer works, and it has to have some other prefix. Further debugging is therefore needed. Edit: OK, there's definitely something weird going on with encodings. Adding a Registry::dump call into the Game constructor gives me output like this: output error : string is not in UTF-8 output error : string is not in UTF-8 eCrosshairs" ="mU" mU="SHIFT"/>< ="ToggleGrid" ="(³R"/>< ="ToggleView" ="U" mU="SHIFT+CONTROL"/>< ="NextView" ="" mU="CONTROL"/>< ="ZoomIn" ="Delete"/>< ="ZoomOut" ="Insert"/>< ="CenterXYViews" ="" mU="CONTROL+SHIFT"/>< ="CenterXYView" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="ToggleCubicClip" ="" mU="SHIFT"/>< ="ToggleCamera" ="U" mU="SHIFT+CONTROL"/>< ="TogTexLock" ="" mU="SHIFT"/>< ="DragVertices" ="U"/>< ="DragEdges" =""/>< ="DragFaces" =""/>< ="ToggleSelectionFocus" ="" mU="CONTROL"/>< ="ThickenPatchDialog" ="" mU="CONTROL"/>< ="ToggleShowAllLightRadii" ="" mU="CONTROL+SHIFT+ALT"/>< ="ToggleClipper" ="mU"/>< ="MouseTranslate" =""/>< ="MouseRotate" =""/>< ="MouseDrag" =""/>< ="NewOrthoView" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SetGrid0.125" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid0.25" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid0.5" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid1" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid2" ="U" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid4" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid8" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid16" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid32" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid64" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid128" ="" mU=""/>< ="SetGrid256" ="" mU=""/>< ="ToggleTextureTool" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="ToggleMainControl_TextureTool" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT+SHIFT"/>< ="NormaliseTexture" ="" mU=""/>< ="TexToolGridUp" ="plus" mU="SHIFT"/>< ="TexToolGridDown" ="minus" mU="SHIFT"/>< ="TexToolMergeItems" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="GroupCycleBackward" ="ISO_Left_Tab" mU="SHIFT"/>< ="GroupCycleForward" ="" mU=""/>< ="RevertToWorldspawn" ="" mU="SHIFT"/>< ="SavePosition1" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition10" ="(³R" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition2" ="U" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition3" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition4" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition5" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition6" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition7" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition8" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="SavePosition9" ="" mU="CONTROL+ALT"/>< ="LoadPosition1" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition10" ="(³R" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition2" ="U" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition3" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition4" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition5" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition6" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition7" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition8" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="LoadPosition9" ="" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="ToggleOrthoBackgroundPanel" ="U" mU="YĝmU"/>< ="ToggleRotationPivot" ="" mU="CONTROL"/>< ="ToggleAasVisualisationPanel" ="" mU="CONTROL+SHIFT"/>< ="GroupSelected" ="" mU="CONTROL+SHIFT"/>< ="UngroupSelected" ="" mU="CONTROL+SHIFT"/></mU><> Whereas with xmlParseFile there are no weird characters and the output just looks like properly formatted XML. 13. If you did not delete the contents of the directory where you installed TDM with tdm_installer, all the log files should be there. Their filenames are suffixed with data&time, so they can only be removed manually. If you find them, you can just share all of them, I'll find the error in the logs.
14. Hey so I'm trying to play the first mission and I can play it fine but if I die and try to load the game it says "game error couldn't load darkmod211\maps\prologue9.script" What should I do?
15. Yeah it would be cool to see some more detailed statistics and it’s a shame they aren’t really captured. Since we are talking about fan mission platforms, where players also make the content for the game, I feel like the best thing we’ve got is you can look at the number of content releases for the games. Keep in mind the graph counts campaigns as single missions - so for example NHAT and TBP both count as 1 mission. A good year for TDM has has approaching maybe 50% - mostly we’re 25-30%. https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152494 You could also look at the number of ratings thief missions get on https://www.thiefguild.com/ vs TDM ones, but that is pretty iffy in that you could chalk that up to more awareness of the site in the thief community than TDM Out of curiosity is there a reason a thief player can’t be a new player? I kind of think a player is a player and new players would be ones who are playing the dark mod who weren't? Is there disagreement the base of players most likely to pick up the game are fans of the thief games? They are certainly the most fruitful place to find feedback on the game beyond the sphere of this forum that I have seen. When we were trying to finish up SLL there was a lot of discussion on the forums about how long it had been since there was a release for the game. I am thankful that the stats show at least some stability over the years in terms of releases for TDM, but the trend for all of the games is decline. Not doing anything is a valid response if that’s what the devs want to do - it is not possible to provide evidence that any effort will slow that inertia. As a player and content maker I would just prefer trying to find feedback where it is offered from players who were willing to try the game but ultimately could not engage with it and see if there is anything that can be done within reason to ease them into the game. The game has a lot to offer imo. All those players are potential contributors - contributions in turn attract players - it’d be nice to see the cycle go on as long as it can.
16. My Version 2.10 had an adjustment I installed that changed a display located at the bottom right of the screen from just itemizing Loot to a list of other information that I thought was helpful. But I can't find the file or executable that made the change. I would like to add that to my Version 2.11. I noticed a Modpack by Snatcher's Workshop that had something similar but it wasn't the same. Can anybody help me change ver 2.11 so that I have the same display as shown in the attachment ??
17. Is that a crash to desktop without error?
18. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Infiltrate a keep and steal information. Took me a while to finnish this one, motivation comes and goes! I would like to thank nbohr1more and Pranqster for helping me test the mission and help sort out any problems. Bikerdude for fixing a lighting error. nbohr1more also made the awesome font for the preview att the missions section! And last but no least The Dark Mod team for making all of this possible! All your hard work is much appreciated! Errors and other dissapointing stuff No map Sitting ai will sometimes sit midair if alerted Sleeping ai might also sleep midair if alerted. Crouching on the balcony with your light on may/will cause fps to drop. No title on loading screen (Prefer it that way) Tell me if you spot anymore and i will update. 19. I'm looking for the setting that controls the number of difficulty levels in the options menu. The current "hardcore" setting is not challenging enough for me, and I'd like to make it more difficult, like this one for thief. I can edit the Darkmod.cfg file and would like to know if I can create a separate *.pk4 file with this file, removing everything unnecessary except the parameters I need. Will the game load the default settings from the game root and the additional data from my file? Of course, it would be better if you could tell me how to create an additional difficulty setting. I've searched through all the archives and couldn't find what I need. Thank you for your help.
20. You might get some results if you set "seta logfile" "2" in your darkmod.cfg, then look at the resulting file in your project folder. I have experienced a very similar issue on a very large map, which I haven't solved yet. If I try to quick load, I don't get a crash, but the map doesn't load and I get an error:
21. Dear ChatGPT, What are The Builders in the Dark Mod?

The Builders is a popular game mode in the video game community called "Dark Mod," which is a fan-made tribute to the classic "Thief" series of stealth games. In this game mode, players assume the role of builders who construct structures in a dark and ominous environment while trying to avoid detection by patrolling guards.

The Builders game mode is unique in that it offers players the opportunity to create and design their own levels using the in-game tools and resources provided. Players can experiment with different building materials, construct intricate traps and puzzles, and create their own unique gameplay experiences.

While The Builders game mode is not an official part of the Dark Mod, it has become one of the most popular and well-loved aspects of the game, thanks to its emphasis on creativity, strategy, and stealth.

You guys did not know that, did you?

Ehhh...

After seeing 2 different versions of the Builders blocks (the mission by Jesps and an asset made by @MirceaKitsune that I can't find anymore), I'm now intriguiged about a new in-game Builder game.

Btw. You should ask about maps. Because there are 2 types of maps in TDM (map file and in-game navigation map).

The chat bots that can Google/Bing and pull in info to answer might actually get it right.

22. I spent the morning aligning my windows inside and out with the wall brick textures, but after saving and dmap, it still looks off in-game. It's quite bizarre. I tried deleting the .cm and .proc, and running dmap again (several times) but it didn't help. I don't have any dmap errors either. Any ideas what is going on? additional info: rather than adjusting the textures I edited the brushes, grabbed all the relevant vertices and adjusted the height of the window recesses. On the outside of the house I moved the window facades. Everything is appears to be aligned perfectly in DR, but is way off when I run the game.
23. My new mission, A Night in Altham, is available. We are already up to version 2! @Dave the Tafferfound an problem that deserves a fix, so here is version 2: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/y4r1dmziuq6clh2im3qz1/altham2.pk4?rlkey=m3cv5v6v70lxbc9xha61nuxoj&dl=1. I will ask @nbohr1more to update the databases. Thanks to JackFarmer (alpha testing and custom ambient music) and the many beta testers (jaxa, Shadow, wesp5, Cambridge Spy, thebigh, datiswous, Mezla, MirceaKitsune, Melchior, Acolytesix, TheUnbeholden, prjames, Bergante). Thanks to @peter_spy for his beautiful Builder Compound assets. This is a large mission, so be ready to take some time. I recommend that you do named saves occasionally (I actually implemented auto-saves for this mission, but it was causing crashes on Linux, so I removed it). This mission has a lot of keys, so it implements a key management mechanism. Keys are removed from the game when no longer needed. This includes when you use a key to open a door, or if you pick a door/lock that also uses a key. Most keys are automatically removed, but there are a couple that aren't (for example, if they open up more than one door). In a certain area, this mission uses the Keyhole Peek feature of TDM. Typically, this is when you lean forward (F key) into a door keyhole and you can see into the next room. But in this case you don't lean into a keyhole. It's a hole of another kind. It's an unconventional use of something that isn't used a lot in TDM; hopefully the mission context will make it clear when to use it. The mission does not use Keyhole Peek for regular doors. Be aware, there is a known problem on Linux, where the peek feature can cause a crash. Peeking is not required for mission completion. This has been tested on TDM 2.11a and the current dev build of 2.12 (dev16854-10518). Scary things warning: Difficulty settings make a difference. Things that are affected by the difficulty level: Enjoy!
24. A big thank you and congratulations for this mission I would rate 10/10. I can't find a better one in my memory. It's so big and varied, full of new assets. Just... wow ! Finding a way through the was hard for me, as well as being able to jump and go through a narrow hole in the I also gut stuck in this area just below the horizontal mesh hatch that opens with Oh, and my game use to crash when firing a fire arrow at a Thanks again, you are so good at this.
25. so I just downloaded the game but every time i boot it up it doesn't work my device is the ASUS x550c it only shows a grey screen i have the intel(R) Core I3 Inside and the Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000
