  1. The problem with the bow after loading seems to be a common bug of 2.10, I noticed it in other missions as well!
  2. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  3. Bug 1: In "The Accountant 2: New in Town": "Grab your gear" objective will not complete when using auto-frob. Individual clicking on each item completes the objective. To replicate: [spoiler] Exit starting room and head inside the room to your far right, next to a window. Pull the "lever" to open the secret door leading to your gear. See that auto-frobbing will not complete the objective, while individual clicking does. Bug 2: In "Cole Hurst 1: Eaton" Individual clicking leaves player with 3 functional maps, while auto-frobbing might result with only 1 or 2 of them usable. Auto-frobbing will cause player to pick up, but not acquire map items to inventory. To replicate: Upon spawning, drop to lower floor and pick up items on your table by individual clicking. See that you should end up with 3 separate maps, all of which become usable by "cycle maps" key. Now restart and pick up everything by auto-frobbing. Sometimes you are only left with 1 or 2 maps instead of the 3. If you keep your eye on pickup messages while auto-frobbing, you can briefly notice "acquired -", instead of "acquired (map item name)" You can also see that once first map is picked up, you might have to release the "frob" key and click again to pick up other maps, while other item types do not need the key to be released. Also, inventory item in the corner of the screen might say "special" with no visible icon.
  4. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

      Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  5. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  6. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  7. To anyone willing to help with a minor but useful voice acting/vocal set-related project: I'd like to upload a 3,5 MB zip to a cloud, but I don't have a dropbox account (and mediafire has become weirdly unreliable for zip downloads). Would anyone be willing to share their storage space for a few weeks ? The zip file contains the player character voice files (grunts, etc.) and I'd like to share the link with VAs I've asked for help with completing the female version of the player character voice files. Just so they could have a point of comparison with the existing voice files, to have a clear idea of what we're aiming for with the female version of that vocal set. Thank you for any help with this, it's a minor thing, but would be incredibly helpful ! Cheers...

Thank you. ? Open your darkmod folder, find the pk4 file "tdm_sound_vocals01". Make a copy of it into some other folder elsewhere. Rewrite the format manually, from .pk4 to .zip.  If that doesn't work, use the converter I provide in the attachment (just put it in the same folder as the copied .pk4 and click it). Once you have that vocals .pk4 copy converted to .zip format, you can upload the zip to your dropbox. Like I said, it's only some 3,5 MB, in both .pk4 and .zip format. Then send me the dropbox link, so I can share it with the VAs. Thanks a ton !

one of my favorite reads :) buuut it also makes me a bit frightened at how robust these systems become, even though they are built far from robust. It's some kind of magic, for sure haha. Like you have ways of calculating things that are errorprone, but because they are, they don't show up in the game. they were simply avoided/worked around. Rock solid, but not really :D

  8. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.

  10. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  11. Not really TDM-related, but I have just released a RPG fanzine: http://beyondfomalhaut.blogspot.hu/2018/03/zine-echoes-from-fomalhaut-01-now.html

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  13. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?

  15. This is another report originating from a GCC warning, in this case the comparison of two different enumerators. This works by converting each of the two enumerators into a numeric value, and comparing them instead. In general, an enumerator is better used in a way that does not depend from its value at all. If the value is needed, constants are generally better suited. The relevant one of the two warnings comes from idAF::Load() in game/AF.cpp (line 910), where a variable of enumerator type declAFConstraintType_t from framework/DeclAF.h: typedef enum { DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_INVALID, DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_FIXED, DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_BALLANDSOCKETJOINT, DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_UNIVERSALJOINT, DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_HINGE, DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_SLIDER, DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_SPRING } declAFConstraintType_t;is compared with a variable of enumerator type constraintType_t from game/physics/Physics_AF.h: typedef enum { CONSTRAINT_INVALID, CONSTRAINT_FIXED, CONSTRAINT_BALLANDSOCKETJOINT, CONSTRAINT_UNIVERSALJOINT, CONSTRAINT_HINGE, CONSTRAINT_HINGESTEERING, CONSTRAINT_SLIDER, CONSTRAINT_CYLINDRICALJOINT, CONSTRAINT_LINE, CONSTRAINT_PLANE, CONSTRAINT_SPRING, CONSTRAINT_CONTACT, CONSTRAINT_FRICTION, CONSTRAINT_CONELIMIT, CONSTRAINT_PYRAMIDLIMIT, CONSTRAINT_SUSPENSION } constraintType_t;The comparison of values from two distinct enumerator types should be avoided because it requires the enumerator modifications to be synchronised, but it's very tempting to add an element to one forgetting about the other. If this comparison is really required, there should be a single enumerator type. Judging from the enumerator names, this departure from synchronisation has already happened (I would except a DECLAF_CONSTRAINT_SLIDER to be equivalent to a CONSTRAINT_SLIDER, and instead it's compared to a CONSTRAINT_HINGESTEERING). The two definitions are in different parts of the code and do not apparently share headers. But more to the point, for what I know these numerical values might be serialised, and changing them would break saved data. My recommended suggestions would be: if possible, manage to have a single enumerator for both usesif not, abandon direct comparison and use a slower multiple-choice comparison function.I provide a patch implementing the latter suggestion, which is expected not to break any serialised data, by not changing the enumerator values. Note that this function relies on the heuristic logic of my brain to match the elements from the two enumerators. Somebody with some understanding should cross check it. The patch also addresses the other enumerator comparison, which is more subtle and is caused by the fact that enumerators defined in a template class yield one different enumerator type for each template instantiation. enumCompare.patch.txt
