  1. Okay, I changed #version 120 to #version 130. Yes, correct I only get the TDM mouse but no main menu and no music. Just black screen. Unfortunately still did not help.
  2. Yes, but the third way completely disables bumpmapping in the shader, you won't be able to enable it back even if you restore r_skipbump 0. So this is not a complete solution yet. Anyway, this gives some idea of what is going on. It seems that fetching bumpmap texture yields trash. Given that the objects look completely flat, I assume that it returns constant value (same for all fragments). And given that it looks wrong, I suspect that it may be black color (which corresponds to weird (-1, -1, -1) normal). And if this is true, then it means that bumpmap texture is not loaded properly into the GL pipeline. Or the textures are loaded from file wrongly, which is less likely. Does release build/config show OpenGL errors in game console? If not, we should enable it and see if there are errors.
  3. Still not quite cured... Same Closemouthed Shadows replication except the compass renders correctly until you enter the room with the fireplace where the compass turns black.
  4. Hopefully the screenshot (very bottom of the post) will be clear enough, I had to pass it through Gimp. It's not limited to the mission pictured here, I've seen it happen on Training Mission and The Outpost. So presumably global problem. It just so happens that Thief's Den is probably the fastest loading mission by far. SOME GUI items appear black (here, on Thief's Den, the "Objectives" button in the briefing as well as the loading bar). In game... Shaders are completely weird in places. I've also seen corruption happen on some textures (namely on The Outpost, I can provide screenshots if needed). Water is... well, black. Torch smoke is just a black rectangle too (see the ground in the attached pic: THAT). The screen is also extremely dark as a whole, I have to push brightness/gamma to no end to be able to see something. It's not due to compositing or OpenGL in use, happens both in KDE and XFCE4 with compositing disabled (Arch Linux x64). It's not due to bad drivers (nvidia binary, BTW), anything runs fine, really (and Doom 3 looks as normal as ever). Oh. And it's not due to the update 1.07 -> 1.08, I reinstalled from scratch just to rule it out. Furthermore: F12 crashes the game so I have to resort to external applications for screenshots (minor, except when you want to show a graphical problem. Just my luck. >_>). Fiddling with the graphical settings crashes the game every now and then. (on the bright side of things, yay, a French translation that deserves the name; yay, 1.08; yay, no sound problems). 5. I can confirm the 2.06 black screen (with sound) on playonmac (playonmac 42.2.0, Wine 3.18, default wine video settings, vcrun2013) And in that container, 2.05 works fine. Given sollutions in this topic, gives my the same bad results. Do we need install something else beside vcrun2013?
  6. Thanks for testing. This help us too, to help other players in the future on their first-run. Some on the internet say, to also install the vcrun2015 component. Please install it and check it reaction. A black screen with sound is a video problem. You can solve this by change things in the tdm config file or run tdm with start-arguments. Run TDM windowed mode and low screen resolution: make a backup of the file "darkmod.cfg" (by make a copy of it) Then open the file with a texteditor, change the following values and save the file. r_customHeight 600 r_customWidth 800 r_fullscreen 0 If this works on your system, then you can change the video settings from the tdm main menu. If not, we need some logs. Create in playonmac a shortcut to the tdm executable and fill in some start arguments. (Configure button > select dark mod container > General tab > "Make a shortcut from this virtual drive" button)", select the dark mod exe inside the darkmod folder) After you created the shortcut in playonmac, hit the configure button again, select the darkmod container, then the darkmod exe shortcut and select tab "general" and where you can enter arguments in the "Arguments" input. we need to see how tdm loads. please create a log for us. using the start arguments: +gfxinfo +condump mylog.txt +quitThis generates a textfile inside the tdm folder and automaticly close tdm. We want to see the content of that file. (in spoiler-forum tags, please) If changeing the values for low resolution and windowed moded in the darkmod doesnt work Then use start arguments: +set r_customHeight 600 +set r_customWidth 800 +set r_fullscreen 0(or change these values in the darkmod.cfg file,) If this works on your system, then you can change the video settings from the tdm main menu. Folow the following tdm wiki article: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Debugging_TDM_systemerrors
  7. Ok, so I did what freyk suggested and installed the "vcrun2013" component. This time, the game will actually launch - the music starts and when I move the mouse around or hit the buttons it is clear that I am "making contact" - but the thing is, the screen is all black. Any further ideas? Btw, thanks a bunch for the help, I really appreciate it!
  8. http://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=4893 I found a very problematic issue in the engine. I'm running TDM 2.06, 64bit executable, Linux version (openSUSE Tumbleweed x64). The issue is as follows: Previously, if a bad script or definition or missing asset error occurred, TDM would crash back to the main menu and the error would appear in the console. It seems this is no longer the case and something worse happens instead: Errors will now cause the process to freeze, shortly followed by a permanent black screen. The reason why this is annoying is because alt-tab switching still doesn't work. To recover the operating system, I need to hit Control + Alt + F1 to go to a different runlevel then use 'top' to find the TDM process followed by a 'kill -9 PID'. Can anyone else confirm this and fix the engine locking up on internal errors?
  9. No, the black thumbnail is for D3D applications running in exclusive fullscreen. You can check @runtime if a D3D application is running in BWF or not by that. I don't know for OpenGL ones.
  10. Is the the only difference? The black thumbnail? Try r_fbo 0/1 and restart TDM.
  11. For OpenGL applications maybe there are some more quirks (driver-related / MS specification for OGL drivers-related), for D3D just press WIN button+TAB ! *non-exclusive -> you'll see the active thumbnail *exclusive -> black (blank) thumbnail
  12. Thanks duzenko. Although that tip didn't directly solve my problems, it did lead me to the right documentation. For anyone having similar issues, what ultimately did the trick for me was going to TheDarkMod.exe>Properties>Compatibility > Change_high_DPI_settings > High_DPI_Scaling_Override where I checking the box for "override high dpi scaling behavior" and selecting "application" from the pull down menu. Prior to this I had also turned off AA in TDM, in favor of forcing AA through the nvidia control panel, and I set r_nvidiaOverride 0 and r_useFBO 0 in the game console. (In case any of those were contributing factors.) Currently I'm running in 1920x1080 fullscreen, on all maxed settings (except AA of course), and getting good performance. I have noticed some minor shadow flickering from turning off FBO, but it's not a big deal. Considering turning off FBO also cleared up a graphical glitch I was getting where some water surfaces had periodic horizontal black lines and extra layer of texture, I consider this a win. Plus it sounds like a lot of these issues will be getting fixes for the next update. So thanks again.
  13. Hello! I've been having a host of weird AA/ graphics problems with 2.06. Ill post them here and create bug reports when necessary (sorry if these are redundant in other threads) Windows 10. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980. (Latest drivers) TDM 2.06 (Both 32 and 64 bit) Problem 1- AA forces fullscreen - While in windowed mode + (advanced render features off / SS/ Post/ect) - If I click AA on, it forces fullscreen mode even after restart. I have to disable AA and then restart to get back into window mode. Problem 2- AA and my skyboxes -While AA is turned on + (forced fullscreen, advanced render features off). My skyboxes get this weird windowed effect in them. If I turn bloom on, the effect is very noticeable and creates a huge FPS drop. Some screenshots: Cauldron: With Bloom: Volta and the Stone: with bloom: I did try removing the fog light I use in the skybox, but the problem persisted. Problem 3- Water shader - All advanced features off including AA. I get these very weird black lines on my water shader. Material file: volta_water_material.txt I want to make sure these are legit mod bugs before filing reports, so please let me know if you have the same problems or if these are already filed and being tracked. Thanks!
  14. I opened my WIP, which I last edited with 2.02. Now, with 2.03 one of my textures appears black (black in color, but with clearly visible bump mapping) in the game, but seems okay in DR. The game complains about missing texture textures/darkmod/stone/brick/blocks_sepia_grey_d It is as if the diffuse texture did not make it into 2.03? Can someone confirm? The texture in question is called: textures/darkmod/stone/brick/blocks_sepia_grey
  15. I have a new machine with gtx 760. It does not want to play TDM. I run TDM on 64bit Arch Linux on this new machine and it breaks before starting. (TDM 2.03 is still working on old 64bit Arch machine). It is ofcourse possible that I forgot to install some 32bit lib but maybe it's something different alltogether... Help much apreciated. 16. I would like to add my problems report too! - The new shadows simply dont work at all, they just create fields of black spots. I have an onboard card, so it might just be a compability thingy, old shit n stuff. - The rope arrow is suddenly broken... As soon as i climb on it, it freaks out and lashes itself into the first wall it can find. Unclimbable. Thats all i care for :3 The update brought alot of new performance! And the SFX update really made a huge entrance <3 thx
  17. Hello All, I'm not getting a lot of joy out of 2.0.6... Here are my system specs: Dell XPS M1330 Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0 ghz NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 2 gig of RAM I was using XP mainly for 2.0.5, and it ran without problem, as did the first testing releases of 2.0.6. This was on a XPS M1530, whch has since died, but the specs were the same apart from a larger screen. I have now tried 2.0.6 on XP Pro (32bit): just get a black screen but hear the main menu music. Tried it on linux (32 bit Void) and it does get to the menu. The included missions show but will not install. The game will not reload automatically. I am able to change settings though. It will not download missions list, even though network is working. I have tried some other distros (32 and 64 bit) but no improvement. 2.0.5 still runs ok on linux and XP on this laptop. Here is the terminal output when I run it:
  18. Heya, I've been playing this great mission by Goldwell and while it was really enjoyable, I've encountered a few minor bugs(at least I hope they're minor O_O), and a major one. 1.) There is a safe in the office of the third floor(one with lion head ornament), which contains some loot. I was able to pick up all of it except a single purse with some spilled coins. No matter which angle I tried, couldn't pick it up for some reason, even after restarting TDM few times. 2.) There is an optional objective of putting a certain orb into a cauldron. Apparently, it should start some sort of cutscene, but nothing happens. 3.) Watched a video on YT by FenPhoenix, in which he put a rat into some sort of stew, and the protagonist said a funny line. Tried to put the rat into stew, but nothing happened, except the rat glitching through the pot, rotating furiously for a few seconds. 4.) The final and most severe one I've encountered. After finishing my objectives(except the orb ritual -_-' ), I appeared in a train after being teleported. The end credits started to roll, and the screen remained black. The mission didn't finish, and I could still hear my footsteps, sound of drawing my weapons, but there was no HUD. Tried reloading bunch of times, but no results. I'll try to dash through the mission again tomorrow, hopefully it'll work. Cheers! (^__^ ) (\_/) <-----crappy whale
  19. First, please update your video drivers to the latest version. (to, at this moment version 390.65) Then check if the problem still exists. If so, could you post an application log for us? First check if there is a darkmod-log-file in your tdm folder. if so, open the file with notepad and copy its content to this topic in a spoiler-tag. If not, please create one and please post its content in a spoiler-tag. (See wiki article: Debuggin _TDM systemerrors) Tip: use my tdm launcher to load TDM executable with the arguments) And how about running tdm temporary, windowed and/or low sreen resolution? see instruction in topic: running-tdm-results-in-black-screen - entry406879 - edit - Using tdm arguments: +set r_customHeight 600 +set r_customWidth 800 +set r_fullscreen 1 (or select the options in the tdm launcher) We got also a wiki, with some solutions: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=FAQ#Troubleshooting http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Installation
  20. Look at the link Nob posted, near the bottom they compare the U2413 to the U2413M. Hmmm, not sure what this means but: luminance (cd/m2): 266 Black Point (cd/m2): 0.32 Contrast Ratio: 839:1 that seems really dark black point. This is an LCD backlight and I find this monitor excellent for TDM.
  21. Did you not see the mirrors and reflections in Vanished One's "In the Black"..? They were great - especially the puddles of water. // also the rotation origin bug in dr24 appears to have been fixed in dr25
  22. Hello all, I am trying to compile and play The Dark Mod under my platform (Gentoo Linux). After patching the patchable to make it compile, it turns out that no rendering is shown on screen at all: black screen (with resolution change), mouse is responsive and I can hear the reaction of the GUI to its movement (clicks and all); also the background music (soothing, charming, beautiful... but that you know already) cuddles my ears. I started the bisection of the code from version 2.05 (I think... it was r6753) to r7203. It took me a while (none of the commits compiles out of the box, and different ones require different patches), and in the end I found that r6834 works for me (at least the menu screen!), while r6835 does not any more (as above). I have the output to screen of two runs. In thedarkmod-r6834.txt, I started it with no arguments, and then quit. In thedarkmod-r6835.txt, I started it with no arguments, then I switched to a text console and killed it (because I could not see the GUI to quit). The only files that changed between the two runs are thedarkmod.x86, gamex86.so and tdm_game02.pk4. Any suggestion for me to have this work?
  23. I see nothing but pure black on that SS on my old LG Flatron. It's IPS, so it should explain that. I upped my monitors brightness and gamma, didn't really change it. Pitch black turned to very dark gray. It's not even that expensive, cost me 550e back in 2010. Still a very good balance between speed and quality. I must be getting delirious on this fever or something... I was sure this topic had something to do with sun spots, even after reading a few lines... The topic and that little avatar of the surface of sun. Yeeeah... back to bed...
  24. Judging by that particular monitor's response time (5ms) I would say its a TN panel and this is just something that goes along with TN panels in my experience. Regardless if you're using 32bit color output in Windows/Linux, the monitor is limited in its color spectrum as are all 8bit panels. 10bit panels can provide the full color gamut but they are prohibitively expensive. Also, since its an older monitor, it more than likely has CCFL backlight which is something else that hinders proper black color reproduction. LED backlighting is much better at producing black blacks. Looking at your screen shot and owning 3x TN panels myself, I don't personally see anything different about it vs. mine so my advice would be.... get used to it? You can possibly tilt the monitor either UP or DOWN a bit to alter the colors shown on the screen. just my 2 pennies.
  25. Hi, This appears to directly affect TDM (or, rather, the "kind of dark mod now"). Win10 pro, v.10.0.15063 Build 15063.726 Nvidia 388.31 (15/11/17 or 11/15/17 for you yanks) - despite this was the same version I already had from October. Win10 updates on this day were KB4849011 and KB4048954 Something about these updates and / or the new Nvidia drivers has seriously up a lot of older games. But made newer games look better... Perhaps in how either DX and/or shader models are being handled. Colour lookup table is not being taken from system - is a "blank canvas". Cannot re-create previous "look" no matter what settings for brightness / gamma / contrast. Also, Nvidia DSR (ie, squeezing 4k resolution down into 1920x1080) now totally screws TDM. Can't even get onto the menu to change the resolution to native. Had to fix resolution down to native via config files. Have noticed issue in several older games, notably Farcry2. Game appears bleached out, unless xml edited to start game in windowed mode and and alt+enter to make full screen, resolution changed back up to native or 3840×2160 for DSR, DX 10. No vibrance. Some contrast can cause black spots, specular and shadow-cast affected. Draw distance for certain things (eg, certain lamps) has changed. Splinter Cell appears to be more vibrant, have higher contrast (very dark shadows and very bright lights). Inside TDM, this has resulted in some very weak shadows with very sharp edges. Can be difficult to discern light/dark areas (esp. for players like me who play without light-gem) Colours are more vivid, that's for certain. Screenshots appear normal - it is only "live" that this occours (like the migraines it induces). Same for all the games. Worse, it's affected colour reproduction in many graphics applications. Either that or my screen is broken and my printer profile has decided to turn 50 shades of darker in the past few days. For some reason it's also thinking I have two wacom tablets attached to the machine, instead of one... Think it's windows more than Nvidia... Icon cache is screwed on desktop - need to f5 to see new files. File explorer windows are resized after exiting affected application / game. Some processes need killing through task manager and refuse to exit... Might nuke the installation - no-one else appears to have noticed it. Checking if anyone else has (win10 insider with nvidia 980ti that used to have perfect colour profile).
