1. I'm dropping my next standalone mission next week. And I wanted to give everyone a little teaser of what's to come by showing off my new briefing video. In it you'll hear a brand new voiced protagonist which is quite a bit different to the norm The mission was supposed to be featured in the Connections Contest but due to real life constraints I was not able to make the contest deadline. Because it was originally a connections contest mission you'll notice some references to the Volta universe (I was given permission by Kingsal to do so of course). With the extra time, I have spent it polishing and finishing up the mission which is now in beta and almost already to be released.
2. The *DOOM3* shaders are ARB2 ('cause of old GeForce support) carmack plan + arb2 - OpenGL / OpenGL: Advanced Coding - Khronos Forums
3. Experimenting with TDM on Steam Link on Android. see topic http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/19432-tdm-on-steam-link-for-android/

Did the TDM team removed D3's internal Joypad feature? (tdm works only with systemkey binders for joysicks)

Thanks to shadrach, i got my joypad working in TDM on steam link!

4. To be honest contests are first and foremost there to get people to enjoy mapping together, the contest result is inconsequential (though Id definitely say the contest mechanism is an important part of the experience). We've already got a multi-author FM in a mostly single-author contest that literally builds on a released mission - so I think that ship has sailed. Let's let all join who submit missions before voting ends. My only conditions would be that each FM describes: 1) what other FMs their story connects to 2) what new TDM features were used, if any
5. I am fine deferring to the other authors if they have no concerns, but if there is any concern at all about fairness in Iris being submitted, which is the impression I got from that original post, allowing it to participate in the contest mechanically, but not be eligible to win seems like a good middle ground to me as far helping out the community vs keeping the contest fair. Again I am not invested in the outcome of the contest, but am invested in the Dark Mod and am just happy we are getting so many great missions to play and that I could finally get mine out!
6. id Studio did a poor job in defining its categorization of variable nomenclature, so in subsequent documentation and discussions there are divergent views (or just slop). In my series, I had to choose something, and went with what I thought would be clearest for the GUI programmer: Properties, which are either Registers (like true variables) Non-registers (like tags) User Variables (also true variables) I see that your view is more along these lines (which perhaps reflects C++ internals?): Flags (like my non-registers) Properties, which are either Built-in (like my registers) Custom (like user Variables) Also, elsewhere, you refer to "registers" as temporaries. I am willing to consider that there could be temporary registers during expression evaluation, but by my interpretation those would be in addition to named property registers. I'm not sure where to go next with this particular aspect, but at least can state it.
7. Just a heads up, but we've been kicking around ideas for an FM contest over at TTLG recently, and I've pretty much decided I want to start one up soon. The theme will be "Lost Places." The idea is to create something distant/remote and away from The City proper. Ancient ruins, lost temples, abandoned buildings, crumbling tombs, anything along those lines. I don't think there's every been a combination Thief/TDM contest, so I want to do that. Since there is no need for specific factions or places, this should work fine. So any entries for T1, TG, T2, TDS, or TDM will be accepted. This seems like it could be a good contest for TDM, as I don't think there are a lot of "Lost City" type missions out there. It seems like most missions take place in Bridgeport. Build time will probably be between 4-6 months - I wanted to go a bit longer this time in hopes it will produce some higher quality missions. Anyway, this will probably all start up within a week to 10 days, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

9. Thomas Porter is back in a TDM FM called... LQD is a medium sized FM, made for the TDM unusual contest 2013, where Thomas Porter sets out to get rid of the Lich Queen once and for all! Will he succeed, or will the evil Lich Queen get her sinister revenge on Thomas? The mission was created by me, Sotha. Betatesters: Bikerdude, nbohr1more and Obsttorte are thanked for their efforts on improving this work. Big thanks to TylerVocal for excellent voice acting. Thanks to freesound audio artists: Amliebsh (39222), Steveygos93 (80401), Jackie4ever (83095) and Klankbeeld (133100). Immense thanks for the developer team and everyone contributing to the mod. Release notes: *This mission has player character narration. There is no way to control the volume of the player lines in TDM 1.08 and they are at 100% volume at all times. For optimal experience, be sure to set SFX and ambient close to 100% volume in the in-game audio settings and fine tune the volume to nice levels from you operating system's mixer. That way the world sounds match the player voice in volume and your gameplay experience is not reduced by very loud player narrative. *This mission involves using objects with other objects. Normally objects are used like this: push R to drop the item into your hands, move the item where you want to place or use it. *This mission has a video briefing, so you have the habit of skipping the TDM logo which is visible before the briefing, do not skip it or you will miss the briefing. Download link: Use the ingame downloader to get it. As always, it is not recommended to read the thread further before you have completed the mission. Someone will fail to use spoiler tags.
This will be hidden
Enjoy! Please remember to give comments and vote! -Sotha.
10. Thanks, I can also recommend gog galaxy. The idea of the custom tags is really nice, I'll have to try this out too!
11. Keep in mind also that mission size, and complexity have increased dramatically since the beginning. For a lot of veteran mappers, it can take over a year to get a map made and released. The last dozen missions have for the most part been pretty massive, with new textures, sounds, scripts, models etc. We seem to be long past the point of people loading up the tools, and banging out a mission in a few weeks that's very barebones. We still do see some of those, but I noticed in the beta mapper forums and on Discord, that mappers seem to make these maps, but don't release them, and instead use the knowledge gained to make something even better. Could just be bias on my part scrolling through the forums and discord server though.
12. YOU TAFFERS! Happy new year! Deadeye is a small/tiny assassination mission recommended for TDM newcomers and veterans alike. Briefing: Download link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JWslTAC3Ai9kkl1VCvJb14ZlVxWMmkUj/view?usp=sharing Enjoy! EDIT: I promised to someone to write something about the design of the map. This is in spoiler tags below. Possibly useful to new mappers or players interested in developer commentary.
13. Thanks, but the one feature I'm looking for is not based on difficulty level. I think I can cobble it together from info in the wiki page. It's next on my list of projects. If I can create a working mainmenu_briefing.gui file with an example how this works, I will add it to the wiki (as code, so I don't have to upload anything). Could be interesting for a contest. Mappers might be interested to use a never used feature included in core by Grayman, to a new mission, I would think..
14. Seems to confirm: https://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=5718 does it happen in the latest dev build: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20824-public-access-to-development-versions/
15. TTLG? That's Through the Looking Glass Forums. A looking glass fan community. Has been around for a long, long time. https://www.ttlg.com/forums/
16. I'll make use of however much extension time is decided upon. I think being closer to the 2.10 release makes sense, maybe add the month of January to the contest. This would still leave a couple post-deadline weeks before the 2.10 release. If beta testers for the contest maps shake out additional bugs that get fixed during January, it might work out that an official beta or release candidate build could be timed to coincide with the contest deadline.
17. I just read@motorsep Discovered that you are able to create a brush, then select it and right click "create light". Now you have a light that ha the radius of the former brush. Just read it on discord and thought it may be of use for some people in the forums here too.
18. https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/tags <- directx 12 wrapper for dxvk https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/tags <- directx to vulkan wrappers D3D 9 to 11 eg. dxvk if you want to try it with horizon zero dawn you need to copy out dxcompiler.dll from Tools\ShaderCompiler\PC\1.0.2595\x64 and bink2w64.dll from Tools\bin and place them next to HorizonZeroDawn.exe. then copy over dxgi.dll from dxvk and d3d12.dll from vkd3d and place them next to it to. now fire up the game and let the shaders recompile -> profit.
19. Did a great find today: Quake 4 mods for dummies. Now online readable. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/5576-book-quake-4-mods-for-dummies/?p=412644

20. I think the reason the dev forums exist is to provide a place where the implementation of features can be discussed without getting mixed up with other debates when someone believes what the devs are doing is wrong. We often post public discussion threads for features with subjective elements like the frob outline, because community feedback is very important. But there will always be vocal defenders with strong views for or against certain features, or how exactly it should be implemented in their opinion. At some point a decision has to be made and be carried through, which is what the dev forums are for. Almost all of the threads are very technical, basically explaining and discussing recent or potential code changes with other devs. Its hard to say. Its a hobby the devs do in their spare time, so people come and go when they're in the mood and when they have the time. The team page is mostly accurate except for some relatively newer additions like myself.
1. Obsttorte
2. Bikerdude

Bikerdude

He changed ita long while back, it was so he was using the same name as he uses on other forums.

21. My old answer to this question used to be, well, you know, you could always make a quick FM for everybody to solve that problem. A person could make a contest sized FM in like 1~2 weeks.
22. I just found this thread on ttlg listing Immersive Sims: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151176
