1. Greetings everyone! I recently got into TDM and am already having a lot of fun playing through and ghosting missions. However, coming from Thief, I am mostly relying on the rules and my experience with that game, while there are clearly differences in how TDM works. Right now, there is talk in the ghosting discussion thread on TTLG to amend the ruleset and include clarifications pertaining to TDM. So I wanted to drop by and ask: is there an active TDM ghosting community already and have any rules for this playstyle been developed? I would also like to ask someone to take a look at the draft of this addendum to see whether everything looks correct: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487&page=16&p=2473352&viewfull=1#post2473352 Thanks!
2. Well, here's some teasers for a haunted house mission I'm hoping to get done by Halloween. For the second screenshot I increased the gamma just so you can see what's going on- I'm really trying to avoid that milky grey look you get with high gamma and ambient. This is also a self-imposed challenge: the whole mission fits inside a 1024x1280x1024 box, including the skybox and playertools. Lights and speakers can have radii that protrude outside but all the geometry has to fit inside the box. It's amazing how much you can squeeze into such a tiny area. Showing any more screenshots would unfortunately spoiler the mission.
3. Halloween Speed build Contest Entry: Briarwood Cathedral 10/29/2014 Version 1 Author: Buck28 Beta Testers: Airship Ballet and l84work approximate build time 7-8 weeks I met a pal of mine at a local watering hole. Ole' Freedo has news about the Briarwood Cathedral out on Waterford Island. Seems a lot has been going on that is on the Supernatural side? I find that hard to believe, but it might give me an edge to loot the place. There is also a rumor of old Spanish, Pirate treasure. Since tonight is All Hallows Eve, It's as good of a night that I could ask for. Let's see what Briarwood has to offer. Corso http://www64.zippysh...05489/file.html Link to Mission http://www64.zippysh...58668/file.html Link to screen shots This is my second mission. I am still a newbie. I hope you have fun. Save often. Thanks, enjoy! Buck:
4. A Problem Arises I've paused subtitling of the Lady02 vocal set, because of a problem with the voice clips described here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21741-subtitles-possibilities-beyond-211/&do=findComment&comment=490151 While a way forward is being determined, I'll work on a different vocal set. Maybe manbeast, for which Kingsal just provided me the voice script.
5. Of course, it is one of the reasons for the decline of online forums, since the advent of mobile phones. Forums on a mobile are a pain in the ass, but on the other hand, for certain things there are no real alternatives to forums, social networks cannot be with their sequential threads, where it is almost impossible to retrieve answers to a question that is asked. has done days ago. For devs for internal communication, the only thing offered is a collaborative app, such as System D (not to be confused with systemd). FOSS, free and anonymous registration, access further members only by invitation, full encrypted and private. https://www.system-d.org
6. Black Parade is released ! https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152429
7. Body awareness please. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20013-are-you-gonna-add-this/
8. I loved it. Awesome game. I faceplanted at the people who asked for quest markers in the Steam forums there... Herr, lass Hirn regnen. The game is so great, and so true to the original, because it doesn't hold your hand. When is the new breed of gamers gonna learn.
9. Background Eastbound is a FM created for the Christmas Connections contest. Although it was not ready in time to meet the contest deadline, its original inspiration is still present. This FM will be the first in a series following the Thieves' Guild member and protagonist Samuel Wilson in the events following a heist gone wrong. What will now be the second mission in the series was already nearing beta testing when the contest was announced (and it already featured a few "connections" of its own), so this presented an opportunity to fill in the backstory even more. Credits The TDM core team for all the hard work they do creating all the features, assets, scripts, and tools that we can all use in our FMs YOH and others for the custom sounds Everything else within the FM was created by me or modified from either stock or CC0 assets Special thanks to nbohr1more for organizing the contest Special thanks to thebigh and Wellingtoncrab for their valuable feedback during alpha testing All the beta testers, whose efforts led to many fixes, playability improvements, and general polish: Acolytesix, Cambridge Spy, datiswous, nbohr1more, prjames, thebigh, Shadow, Wellingtoncrab, wesp5 Technical stuff This FM requires TDM 2.10 or newer as it makes use of some of the latest features. The mission will look its best if you have shadow maps enabled instead of stencil shadows (Settings / Video / Advanced, Shadows Implementation = Maps). The mission will sound its best if you have EFX enabled (Settings / Audio, OpenAL EFX = On). Screenshots
10. So giving it none of those tags, but making the AI invisible, silent, non-solid, and on a team neutral to everyone would not work? Oh well, it was a horrible inelegant idea anyway.
11. @nbohr1moreI did see your prior deleted post saying I did not belong in the contest and I admit it did sting a bit, as while perhaps not the intention it read like I had misrepresented what I had been doing. I would say from my perspective I have been quite consistent in that I do not care about the contest aspect at all, but that I wanted to use the deadline as motivation to finally finish my WIP mission, which as far as I knew at the time was kosher with the rules. What wasn’t is that I certainly missed the deadline. I also spent the time incorporating the new 2.10 features, releasing assets for the contest participants and adding connection elements into the story as broadly these seemed good for the mod, just like encouraging participation and participating in the contest was. That is it from my perspective. I certainly did not intend to conceal anything or wish to cause any issues, nor did I think my chances were particularly good I would make the contest deadline or even win such a thing. Thus I am happy to participate in voting, to have the mission rolled up in promotional stuff related to the contest, etc if that is also helpful, but I would respectfully ask to not be considered for any placement as so far I find even discussing it has been quite deflating.
12. Horror themed fan mission - exploration of seemingly deserted keep in the middle of swamps. Spiders, undead, darkness. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story about the fate of my family. My uncle, Ralph Mac Roberts, is the baron of a keep nestled deep within the Rahenaen marshes. It was once an important outpost tasked with guarding one of the few Builder roads that cross the marsh, but after the Inventor`s Guild built a system of nearby dams that flooded the whole land, the road closed and there was no longer anything to watch over anymore. The keep itself needed reinforcement against the raising water level and the trade routes become almost impassable, not only for the carriages but for lone couriers as well. There hadn`t been any messages coming from the keep for over a year and my father was about to assemble a caravan so he could go on an expedition to the keep himself. However, in the middle of the night before he was set to leave, a carrier pigeon landed on his windowsill. My father received the letter and read the apologies from my uncle and his family, excusing their long absence. As a way to make reparations for their extended silence, my uncle invited me to the keep to stay there for a fortnight or so. My uncle had instructed me to leave my horse three leagues away from the keep by the nearest charcoal burning hut and hike the remainder of the road on foot, as the trek through the marsh is treacherous for horses. The weather will be awful this time of year, but my father insists that I should go anyways to ensure that our relatives are okay. These plains become dreadfully deserted - to the point where you more expect to meet the dead than the living. And by the way - I think I`m lost. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj1DVS465udZgVkXteBbr6cUxdPH Thanks: to the TDM team for great tools, and all the contributors for their assets, to betatesters: Amadeus, Bienie, Boiler's_hiss, Dragofer, Filizitas, Judith, nbohr1more, s.urfer, again to Amadeus for proofreading and text tweaks, and to all the players for their time! 13. IMPORTANT It is highly recommended that you play with shadow maps turned on to get full use of the new volumetric lights in 2.10. Go into Settings -> Video -> Advanced -> "Shadows Implementation" set to "Maps". Additionally it is recommended that you play with EFX and HRTF turned on. Go into Settings -> Audio -> Turn "OpenAL EFX" & "OpenAL HRTF" set both to "On". Author note Noble Affairs features a brand new female protagonist named Clara who comes with a new female voice set. Originally this mission was meant for the connection contest which is why you will notice a lot of references to Kingsal's Volta universe. Due to time constraints this mission was not entered into the contest and instead I decided to release this as a standalone mission. This mission takes place after the events of Volta 1: The Stone but before the events of Shadows of Northdale Act 1. This mission is dedicated to Grayman, may he rest in peace! - Goldwell. A big thank you first up to Epifire for his very helpful advice and putting in some really hard effort and creating some amazing custom models! Please check out his art station page: https://www.artstation.com/epifire I wanted to thank Amadeus, Dragofer, Epifire, Kingsal & Skacky for helping out by providing custom models, readable/text improvements and also general mapping advice. You guys have been incredibly helpful, thank you! I also want to thank my A-Star beta team who helped to squash many bugs: Amadeus, Epifire, Kingsal, Moonbo, Nbohr1more, Random_Taffer & Skacky. And I wanted to thank the fantastic vocal cast: Clara - Joy Hayward Shop keeper - Andrew Bartmess Produce Merchant - Epifire Citywatch guard - Random_Taffer I wanted to thank someone who often doesn't get enough love and that's Greebo who works very hard to create the tools that myself and all other mappers use. Dark Radiant is a fantastic application which is always finding new ways to innovate and improve the mapping experience. Without the work you put in Greebo there would be a lot less missions made, so thank you! Thank you to the Cryo Chamber label for granting permission to use their music throughout the mission. Please check them out at: https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com Thank you to Michael Ghelfi for his audio ambient tracks. You can find more of his work at: https://www.youtube.com/user/MichaelGhelfi And if you wish to support him he also has a patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/MichaelGhelfi And finally thank you to you, the player for playing my missions and providing all the wonderful support and feedback over the years! 14. Any Halloween missions are about to be released?

1. Bikerdude

Bikerdude

Nothing has been announced.

15. Public release v1.7.6 (with Dark Mod support) is out. Improvements since the final beta 14 are: Fixed a few remaining bugs with zip/pk4 support. Game Versions window now properly displays TDM version. Import window no longer has a vestigial off-screen TDM field (because TDM doesn't need or support importing). Web search option is now disabled if an unknown/unsupported FM is selected. If an FM with an unknown or unsupported game type is selected, the messages in the tab area now no longer refer to Thief 3 ("Mod management is not supported for Thief: Deadly Shadows"). The full changelog can be viewed at the release link. The de facto official AngelLoader thread is here: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149706 Bug reports, feature requests etc. are usually posted there. I'll continue following this thread though. Thanks everyone and enjoy!
16. I might have liked the contest to have been a bit more structured and with fewer changes during the contest, but the goal is to showcase 2.10 so I understand why the contest part is almost secondary. Perhaps the next contest could be another speedbuild or unusual gameplay contest, with more solid criteria.
17. Do you have any inof about this year's halloween mission of this game?, because till now I didnt see anything regarding halloween? if you know any info about contest realeted to halloween so plz let me know.
18. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
19. As suggested by nbohr1more, we've still got time for a very short, focused Halloween contest. I hereby propose the following rules: Make the mission public on Halloween (31 October, Saturday). Prefabs and modules are okay, but don't just relabel a fully built mission you have worked on for five years and call it a submission. There is no rule 3.The deadline should make things neat, simple and focused. Don't build your dream mission (although feel free to build your worst nightmare!), because you won't finish in time. Build incrementally, and focus on getting something short and simple out the door. [edit] I don't know how to turn the poll results public, so please let it be known you are participating. I am participating!

nbohr1more

The votes from each thread will be calculated at the conclusion of the contest and the highest rated entrant will win. We have yet to have a contest where the entries are voted on directly though that would be an interesting thing to compare.

3. Obsttorte

Obsttorte

Why not opening a thread for a vote for this missions. Maybe two votes, like first and second place, and than calculate it from there (by weighting the first place times two or so).

4. nbohr1more

nbohr1more

Melan specified the terms and all the entrants agreed to them so we would need a consensus about that change from all entrants. Not that I object, we would just need approval from the mappers. I can open an unofficial vote thread though.

20. Thanks for the replies, gonna try those spoiler Tags again now for my short review (oh well it inserted one above my text now and I can't seem to delete it on mobile - this text editor is strange)
21. Just finished this mission and wow I gotta say in great honor to Grayman and of course the rest of the team picking it up, this was something I've never seen before in any other TDM mission, especially visually wise. I am so happy that grayson gave green light for other experienced mappers to finish his last mission. And what came out of this is really something special. I'll put my review in spoiler tags since I'm now referring to critical mission details. Edit - How do I put spoiler text here on mobile??
test

test
[spoiler[spoiler [sfah
22. Good work! I enjoy short missions because things are nice and focused - you get in, you get out. Also I tend to do better with the loot amounts and I was able to get all the loot without too much trouble, which is rare for me. If I were to make a suggestion though - I found the intro briefing sequence a bit distracting because it was so obvious the narration was pitch-shifted to make a deeper voice. If you felt the original voice wasn't deep enough for your needs, I would either get someone on the forums to record it for you or just leave as is. That's my only real complaint and it's not even about the mission itself, so pretty good first start!
23. I think having the deadline be the 2.10 release date would also be a viable option, and it would make sense to extend the deadline if 2 out of 6 contest FMs (by goldwell and jonri) won't make it for RL reasons. This would of course require an expected 2.10 release date to be set. Note that the team recently agreed to wait with the 2.10 release until some time after the contest FMs have been released to see what bug reports appear when a wider circle of players has access to them. Regarding fairness - the contest rules IIRC didn't mention that authors couldn't team up or had to start from scratch, so we have 1 multi-author FM and 1 FM that was already in the works long before the contest. I think it would be good sportsmanship for those 2 FMs to adhere to the original 28th deadline as closely as they can - but ultimately we want to have polished FMs that enrich TDM, so maybe those FM authors should just list what they did after the 28th so voters can take it into account if they wish to. I believe this is mainly the video briefing for the former FM and my reworking of the "Hitman" script as well as bug fixes for the latter FM. By the way, I'm now also listed as an author for the FM started by Amadeus and Bikerdude since I've contributed substantially to its development by way of my offer to assist all contest participants with implementing new features and solving problems they run into.
24. Okay, I had no idea, I have googled it up now and you are right, to my own surprise. Done, I´ve put some paragraphs which were previously not in spoiler tags into spoilers.
