  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. We (Greebo and myself) have been working on this ancient mission of ours for quite a few years. It is mostly finished (haha well at least mostly playable) but what we still don't have is a great story. We have had a few ideas but were not quite happy with them. It is a type of mission with Who would like to help us to come up with a badass story and objectives? We could also use some help with readables (I'm not that good with ye olde english) and maybe some input/feedback on the map. Here are a few screenshots:
  3. Would it be possible to add a setting to adjust the gamma/brightness when a UI page (especially a readable) is on the screen? Some readables can be quite bright or blinding. Thief (NewDark) has a setting for this: ;; From Thief's cam_ext.cfg ; enabling this option allows the UI (menus, map/objectives, readables) screens to have its own gamma setting ; useful if you get blinded everytime you open the map or read a book gamma_ui 1.0 The main issue I see with implementing this is that readables within a mission can vary greatly in brightness. One mission that comes to mind is Iris. The newspapers are nearly white, so they can be very bright, but other readables in that mission can be fine. I've attached two screenshots to show the difference given the same gamma/brightness settings. Given that variation within a mission, I'm not sure if this feature could actually be implemented. Maybe there is a way to have a threshold for brightness. For example, if the threshold is set to 0.7 and a readable is at 0.5, don't reduce its brightness. However, if the readable is at 0.9, reduce its brightness to 0.7. I'm no graphics programmer, so I'm not sure if something like that can be done. I thought I'd request this feature anyway with the hope that someone with the right knowledge may provide more insight or a solution.
  4. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

  5. Woo!! 2.10 Beta "Release Candidate" ( 210-07 ) is out:

    https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21198-beta-testing-210/

It wont be long now :) ...

  6. I don't think there's a link to thedarkmod.com on forums.thedarkmod.com ...

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

I drew attention to this several times in the last few years. No one payed it any attention, so I just gave up.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  7. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  8. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  9. I've just started mapping, and using the Sotha videos I've managed to create most of the basic elements of my mission, however, I'm receiving an error when trying to put a readable into my environment. What I've done so far is spawned a readable entity from the list, and gone to 'Readable Editor' in the Entity submenu, with the readable entity selected. Here I receive an error 'Mod Path not Defined using Base Path', even if I ignore the error and try to write anything on the paper, I receive the same error when attempting to save it and my only option is to cancel. Can anyone tell me what's going wrong and what I can do to fix it? Whilst I theoretically could finish my mission without readables, I'd obviously like to add them in to provide players clues and flesh out the characters. Edit: I made this thread without realising that there was a newbie question thread where this question was meant to go. I made some progress on my issue but I still can't get the readables to work, I posted this on the question thread So far I've managed to create everything in my mission smoothly, but I can't make readables. I followed the instructions on the wiki and specified custom folder for my xdata files (a folder in my darkmod/map), and I can create a readable in the editor and save the xdata file. However in game I receive the error "Non-Existant xdata declaration: readables/(MyMissionName)/mybook" as well as "num_pages not definined on readable" followed by the entity name, upon loading my mission. Attempting to read or pick up the readable locks up my character making it impossible to change equipment or items. I even poked around my files and opened the xdata file in notepad, and the contents match what I got in the editor and structure itself seems fine. Does anyone know a solution, so far the mapping has been going smoothly and it's quite frustrating to get stuck on readables. I don't technically need them but, they I couldn't make the mission I want without them. Sorry for the double post, but any answer would be very much appreciated. Edit: My issue got solved in the newbie questions thread, so is there anyway this thread can be deleted?
  10. Still spreading the word about TDM on forums to new peops... Funny to see people say "Awesome, I loved playing Thief back in the day!"

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

Honestly the mod/Indie genre is still really booming right now. And they aint got no reason to do shady invasive privacy bs.

  11. Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?

He changed ita long while back, it was so he was using the same name as he uses on other forums.

  16. Was thinking on Readables, and so many FM's have made books within the universe, and in this universe, those books would be shared, sold, bought etc. So it should be reasonable that any book from an FM could be seen in any other FM, since it could've been bought by whatever character in the game. So it seems we need a Readables book database, that we can use the best books written by mappers, that can be used and shared easily within the community (which means books in game should have an author somehow). Since some of us are better writers than others, it makes sense to have completed works to use and share. Or maybe the best of them should be included in the TDM! Neon
