  1. There's a group of players who have meticulously tested and adjusted ghosting rules for The Dark Mod. Please see: Official Ghosting Rules: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148523 Ghost Rules Discussion: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487 Why alienate an established group of dedicated players?
  2. I noticed that too. I'm definitely wanting to add a second URL field at a minimum, or per-game as you say. It'd be cool to be able to just go straight to the forum thread too, which I could do if I got it from that wiki page. I'm just nervous about getting stuff programmatically from the edit section of a wiki page, that just seems like it could change and the url is like some &action=edit which isn't an explicit filename (it's a command to generate a page maybe?) so maybe that could change too? If the text in the source code box were accessible by itself in some explicit file I guess I'd feel less apprehensive. Then again I'm totally inexperienced when it comes to web stuff. For example, http://missions.thedarkmod.com/available_missions.xml is where TDM itself gets the available FMs list from, though that list doesn't have any forum links or much extra info. Although incidentally I could use it to populate the FM titles, authors and dates instead of a local scan, maybe get a bit more accuracy.
  3. Relax @Näkki, it's great to hear you enjoyed the game. My personal expectations were just a bit different when I read the Steam page, although the various trailers should have been a warning that stealth maybe wasn't the biggest priority of the devs. From the Steam page: "Weird west legends meet eldritch horror in BLOOD WEST, an immersive stealth FPS." Also "Blood West is a stealth FPS inspired by the genre classics such as the Thief series (whose fans will be happy to hear the voice of Stephen Russell, the actor voicing the master-thief Garrett, returning here as the protagonist), S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, or - from the contemporary catalog - Hunt: Showdown. The gameplay rewards the careful approach: scouting the area, stalking your enemies, and striking from the shadows. Can you figure out a way to clear a fort full of ghouls and monsters without raising an alarm?" From my personal experience I think the game is predominantly Hunt: Showdown, a bit of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and a very small portion Thief. Stealth is very unforgiving and makes it almost impossible early game when there are various enemies around, but hey maybe I just suck at it. I don't see Deus Ex in it, unless the skill leveling is the Deus Ex part for you and then I have to disagree with you, as that seems like the trait system in Hunt: Showdown. Edit: What I also understood from the Steam forums is that the original VA was dropped close before the release of the full version and replaced by Russell with no real explanation from the devs why this was done.
  4. Ambient atmospheres are in my opinion one of the best parts of the Dark Mod experience, not just for getting a mission to have the right feel but also for inspiration and to have them playing in the background when creating maps. The more the merrier, so here's a thread to collect all the links to ambient music and environmental sounds that could have a spot in TDM's setting. Ambients from the TDM forums Gast's Eerie Lullabies Magnanimous Merry's Miscellanea Orbweaver's Dark Ambients Spadey's Ambients Radioteque's Ambients Kyyrma's Composing Ambient Tracks for Dummies - Kyyrma shows how ambient soundtracks can be made from a set of sounds. Also contains some of his finished ambients. Request for more interior sounds - this thread is a very productive community session where members came up with a large and good selection of new ambients. Uncle Peti's Sound Den Dragofer's Ambients - post #6 in this thread SeriousToni's Ambients - posts #8, 12, 15 and 19 in this thread Ambients from the TTLG forums Custom resources list Gigagooga's Ambients 1 - possibly the largest pack of ambient musics and nature sounds, all of them high quality. Gigagooga's Ambients 2 - this pack puts more weight on shorter swells/hits/pads to be layered on top of a subtle ambient. Gigagooga's Ambients 3 Yandros' ambient loop Sephy's Ambients - a large collection of ambient pieces, including many shorter ones which will be valuable for anyone wanting to try a layered ambience approach like in the Thief OMs and Full Moon Fever. Internet databases www.freesound.org - some of the better composers in my opinion are ERH and BrandonNyte. www.purple-planet.com - a large selection of all kinds of ambient and musical soundtracks to be used freely. www.darkwinter.com - an internet label that publishes a lot of dark ambient music under a Creative Commons license. www.endlessascent.com - sister website of Darkwinter for non-dark ambients. Youtube Asatru Dark - also has very nice reference images for outdoor stone memorials, statue arrangements etc. #4 Void by Raffaele du Marteau & #6 Dreaming of Nowhere by Raffaele du Marteau - possibly the most forlorn pieces I've found on the internet. Alacazam - a prolific Creative Commons ambients composer . Cryo Chamber - for-profit label for dark ambient music with a large selection on offer. Going by their Youtube comments they're fine with people using their soundtracks for games etc., although you'd probably need to buy the soundtracks first. Dark Ambient Mixed Session - as much ambient as something to have in the background while mapping.
  5. YES! Maybe add other columns for things in the wiki? https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Fan_Missions_for_The_Dark_Mod
  6. No worries. If you wanna try, it's not too difficult, especially with the v2 "presets". The tricky part is ensuring the location entity is inside the middle of an area and that location separators enclose the area. I've actually done this by editing the map file in a text editor and making the entities match locations of other entities like door handles for the separators and vases (etc) for the location. It's easier to do in DR if you are a DR veteran of course. https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Setting_Reverb_Data_of_Rooms_(EAX)
  7. Announcing the release of the second William Steele mission! Summary Home Again takes place in Bridgeport when Steele returns home from the north. He finds that something terrible has happened, and he must begin a quest to find the perpetrator and why he did it. Most of this mission is spent on the rooftops. The William Steele Missions Home Again is the second of several Steele missions. Altogether they'll tell a story of corruption, greed, and revenge. At some point, I'll start packaging them as a campaign, in addition to the single missions. If you haven't played WS1: In the North, I suggest you start with that, then come here. Download Home Again is available through the in-game downloader. Build Time 16 months. I18n Home Again is ready for translation. Thanks Thanks to the TDM team for creating a terrific platform for storytelling and stealth gaming. Thanks to my beta testers: AluminumHaste, Bikerdude, Mr. Tibbs, Xarg, lowenz, Lux, plotzzz, and Deadlove. Thanks to Goldwell for providing voice work for a key part of the story. And thanks to YOU, for playing! Known Issues This is a large mission. To ease the burden on older systems, consider shutting doors and windows behind you as you go. Some players have experienced savegame crashes when playing large missions with TDM 2.01. This problem is under investigation. Until it’s corrected, I suggest you make frequent saves. There are a few spots where long sight lines will cause framerate drops, possibly even pauses. My apologies to anyone who experiences these. If you experience low frame rates, please consult the Performance Tweaks page on the Wiki. Performance Tweaks For very low end PCs I recommend the following settings: V-sync is offAA is offAniso is 4x or lowerAdvanced settings are simple/defaultPost processing is disabledAnyone having performance issues with TDM missions can put the following cvars into their Darkmod.cfg file. This will improve the framerate and stutter/chop when in-game, but may increase loading times a little. image_usePrecompressedTextures "1" image_useNormalCompression "2" image_useAllFormats "1" image_useCompression "1" image_preload "1"Important This mission requires TDM 2.01 or later. I rely heavily on readables to tell Steele's story. Please try to read every readable you find. Most Importantly, Enjoy! Screenshots WS3: Cleighmoor Steele's story continues with Cleighmoor, which you can find here.

  9. The subtitles of The Lady02 vocal set is now available for eventual incorporation into TDM: testSubtitlesLady02.pk4 Lady02 is another noblewoman, somewhat newer and so unmentioned on the wiki. She is a drawling speaker, often indecisive, and given to long musings. Favorite topics are how boring life is for the wealthy, and how to keep men of the household and the maids apart. Lady02 required heavier and more complex use of .srt files than most AI characters, due to: Her slow, rambling monologues Some of the underlying .ogg files were poorly trimmed at the end, so needed compensatory .srt timings. I appreciate the assistance of @datiswous in this effort. Statistics In file fm_root.subs there are 195 inlines, including: 25 with an explicit linebreak, intending 2 lines 170 without Only 1 of these needed an explicit duration extension, to the capped value 0.50 seconds, for 17-20 cps There are 116 SRTs, including: 78 with 1 message (to correct trim problem) 24 with 2 messages 7 with 3 messages 2 with 4 messages 3 with 5 messages 1 with 8 messages 1 with 9 messages Of the 187 total SRT messages, there are: 90 with an explicit linebreak, intending 2 lines 97 without In all, there are 311 voice clips with subtitles, showing 382 messages. Corresponding Excel File Lady02Subtitles.xlsx This is based on Version 6 of the Excel Template for TDM bark subtitles.
  10. So, if I understand you, no Thief Gold FM does sound and text notifications of completed objectives? The missions in The Black Parade surely did. I'm completely confused now. I was sure that original Thief Gold had those objective complete notifications (at least the sound). Reading this thread suggests otherwise though: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132977
  11. I've restarted some services and it appears to be back for me. Please let me know if anything on the wiki still isn't working.
  12. Try the wiki: https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Fan_Missions_for_The_Dark_Mod Multiple sorting options.
  13. I believe the xray materials are what is in core. The def and scripts might still need to be made though there is an entry on the wiki which provides instructions: https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Xrays https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Xrays_in_GUIs
  14. setviewpos https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Reporting_Problem#Coordinates
  15. What was the console again to move view to a viewpos ? Is there a wiki article about this? If not I can write one.
  16. Greetings everyone! I recently got into TDM and am already having a lot of fun playing through and ghosting missions. However, coming from Thief, I am mostly relying on the rules and my experience with that game, while there are clearly differences in how TDM works. Right now, there is talk in the ghosting discussion thread on TTLG to amend the ruleset and include clarifications pertaining to TDM. So I wanted to drop by and ask: is there an active TDM ghosting community already and have any rules for this playstyle been developed? I would also like to ask someone to take a look at the draft of this addendum to see whether everything looks correct: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487&page=16&p=2473352&viewfull=1#post2473352 Thanks!
  17. A Problem Arises I've paused subtitling of the Lady02 vocal set, because of a problem with the voice clips described here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21741-subtitles-possibilities-beyond-211/&do=findComment&comment=490151 While a way forward is being determined, I'll work on a different vocal set. Maybe manbeast, for which Kingsal just provided me the voice script.
  18. The most reliable approach is installing Linux natively. But if you don't want to actually use it regularly, you'll just waste a lot of time and space for nothing. It is possible to run TDM in virtual machine, but you should check that virtual machine supports at least OpenGL 3.3 on Linux guest (and Windows host). Most of them do not. VMWare is perhaps the only one which does support it. I currently build and test TDM on Linux inside VMWare. Here are the instructions: https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=VMWare:_Virtual_machine_with_Linux With non-default cvar "r_gpuBufferNonpersistentUpdateMode 1" it runs more or less OK performance-wise.
  19. I know what you mean. Springheel used this once in a tutorial for traps, but in the end I just copied his methods and didn't understand much. However, there is a different S/R application I understood and I find very handy. If you pick a random frobable entity, go to S/R and click on responses, you can select the Stim "Frob". If you then press the right mouse button in the response effects area, you can activate effects such as: clear/add targets on AI turn off/on lights play sounds remove items run scripts change frobability set skin trigger entities set light color Unfortunately, the last one (changing the light color) doesn't work so well. I have noticed that this effect is reset when you save and reload the game. However, I have not yet noticed this with the other effects (and frobability/remove works perfectly, I use them all the time. But that's only one of the possibilities, certain stims, as I understand it, work on approximation, and you can do cool things with them. There's also a Wiki entry written by Sparhawk, who coded it. Unfortunately I don't understand much there either. I don't even dare to ask, because Geep has already done so much, if he could revise this section and provide understandable examples for both stims/responses. @Geep Didn't you once open a topic in which you explained the use of stims? That was very informative, but unfortunately I can no longer find it.
  20. Nice, but TDM has already a gui editor. How about that someone update the internal TDM gui editor? Or put it in DR? https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=GUI_Scripting:_EditGuis_Editor
  21. Scripting help How do I query whether an objective has been completed? The wiki shows: but this is just gibberish to me. How do I actually write it as a script? I want to use it in an if statement, for example: if (Obj1 = 0 && Obj2 = 0){ sys.trigger( $thing1 ); } else {sys.trigger( $thing2 );}
  22. Of course, it is one of the reasons for the decline of online forums, since the advent of mobile phones. Forums on a mobile are a pain in the ass, but on the other hand, for certain things there are no real alternatives to forums, social networks cannot be with their sequential threads, where it is almost impossible to retrieve answers to a question that is asked. has done days ago. For devs for internal communication, the only thing offered is a collaborative app, such as System D (not to be confused with systemd). FOSS, free and anonymous registration, access further members only by invitation, full encrypted and private. https://www.system-d.org
  23. Black Parade is released ! https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152429
  24. All I want to do is import a basic, static model into the editor. The model is in .lwo format, the polygons are all triangles, the UV's are all mapped correctly. I am not a modelling noob. The textures are all square, and in .dds format. The model does not need a collision mesh or a shadow mesh. It is just a small teddy bear. The problem is that I do not know how to associate a material with this custom model in DR. And in the wiki, which is so out of date now, there is a page that specifically deals with this issue but the example images do not load! Does anyone have the example images from this page? https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Model/Texture_Guidelines Because I see that I need the path info for the model textures to be embedded in the .lwo mesh file, but the example of the path I'm supposed to use does not load in the wiki. Or maybe someone could please just give me a short description of how to import custom models into DR? I am an experienced modeler and texture artist, so no need to ELI5, it's just associating the custom model with a material file in DR that I cannot find any info on. EDIT: Is it something to do with entity .def files? https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=DEF_Files
  25. I'd like to encourage everybody to post their system configuration either here or in our wiki article. This way it's easier for newcomers to check whether their system is capable and what performance or problems are to be expected. Please include information like: - Operating System - CPU - System RAM - Video Card - Video Drivers (if that info is available) - Experienced Performance, Steps you had to perform to get it running or problematic driver versions, etc. If you're posting here, somebody from the team can transfer that info to the wiki article.
