Random video of the day...

A quick google search didn't reveal any detailed information on those guys. This 3d Scene reconstruction is pretty hyped these days, though. Most companies use kinect sensors in a more or less calibrated fashion. On the IFA for example, I saw a company who had 3 kinect sensors on a rotating stand, one directed upwards, one downwards and one straight. The sensors would rotate 360 ° to scan the scene.

Blimey, does the scanning tech create the model as well as the texture?

It's basically the same technique I used here:

only on a much bigger scale. You take thousands of photos and the algorithm compares them to read the perspective and colour details. On some of the movies there are dark shadows baked, which raises questions on how to combine that with dynamic lighting. However last video from my previous post looks like one of those high dynamic range photos, especially the garbage. The room is pretty evenly lit, which leads me to think that they take multiple exposures or somehow correct brightness levels in the process.

Pretty neat! That might be of some limited use for games.

There's actually game being made called Get Even:

It uses the same scanned locations. Apparently this video combines live footage with scans, hence the question "What is real?". My guess is that SWAT walking is live and the girl is scanned.

I read some interviews in Polish. The technology used to be called Thorskan but they changed it to Infomatrix3D. They say that those videos are outdated and that they scan whole streets using drones.

It's only a model...

There does tend to be a lot left to wish for after watching or reading something put out by IGN =P

This was neat, though. It's quite telling that they're a lot more enjoyable/less robotic when they're not talking about something newly released that they reviewed favourably...

When you put them side-by-side like that, you get to see just how impressive it is.

It's surprising how many actors from L.A. Noire were already working in Mad Men when they were cast for it. It's worth watching just for Aaron Staton, if you haven't already. Brilliantly realistic and true to the period.

They worked on those little screens?!

What?!?

What kind of monitor do you need for a machine that displays no more then 40*25characters? (320x200 pixles, 8-bit colour)

Seems like you entirely missed the computer-stonerage ! B)

Hmmmm... I would like to fire up my own once again, but it used to roast my TVs all the time.

I still have it, though.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
