lost_soul Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=061mwMspdioThis was an amazing game. Remember, this came out around the time T2 did. It had a large environment to explore, full of detail (all signs readable, dynamic weather, individual fingers, etc). They even tried to do hair. Characters had shadows that would cast on walls and were accurate to lighting. The biggest flaw is how in the beginning of the game, things can be slow. You ask people the same questions and get (slightly) different answers for quite a wile. Then things get real interesting later on. Also, I'm still finding scenes that I never saw back when the game came out. Its kind of like GTA, where there are always new things to see. I still have a DC and a copy of this game. Sotha Posted June 2, 2013 Report Posted June 2, 2013 GTA4 is an old game, but the LOD capabilities are still stunning. You could just climb down and walk to any location visible. Distant traffic is visibly moving, helicopters and airplanes mind their own business. The world is like magic. Too bad it is just a rather simple action game. The frame could have stretched for so much more... Quote Clipper-The mapper's best friend.
Bikerdude Posted June 3, 2013 Author Report Posted June 3, 2013 Oh man, imagine if we could have views like this in TDM - a huge sprawling city to loot and rooftops to run over.. 1 Quote
Sotha Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 I suppose each building is a model with a bunch of LOD stages: when you are close it contains everything, ventilation units and pipes and stuff. When you are far, it is a box with textures. In principle, one could probably emulate this with modular building technique.... But only up to a certain point. I still think TDM could stretch as far as Dishonored did in terms of visual distances. Quote Clipper-The mapper's best friend.
Obsttorte Posted June 3, 2013 Report Posted June 3, 2013 Or the are using an automatized technique. But yes, building modulary should allow such things. The exterior facades would all be models with LOD stages. Btw.: I have played around a bit with lights turning off there shadowcasting when far away. Didn't finished it yet and it's a dirty hack to be honest, but it could help with such things, too. Bikerdude Posted June 3, 2013 Author Report Posted June 3, 2013 I still think TDM could stretch as far as Dishonored did in terms of visual distances.Sounds like a test map is in order - LOD model types:Close - Patchwork w/FS windows, doors, chimneys (and if possible particle effects) etcMedium - Patchwork w/decal windows, doors, chimneys etcFar - Simple Patchwork decal modelsAnd then I'm guessing SEED on the distant models? and what radiating pattern would we use for SEED, round or square..? Sotha Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 There is definitely something terribly wrong in the traffic culture of that country. In every case people were driving more or less recklessly. No wonder they often have cameras in their cars. Quote Clipper-The mapper's best friend.

Bikerdude Posted June 14, 2013 Author Report Posted June 14, 2013 At 4:20... WTF? It totally *looks* like he went for that guy on the bike! You its things like this that make me see red, the last time some one aimed for me I managed to narrowly avoid them. But then I turned around and once I caught upto them in traffic I blocked them with the bike and then when I saw he had a phone in their hand I almost pulled him out though the drivers side window. Needless to say I called the cops, the C***! was going no where. Quote
