One of the first missions I've played after finally getting Dark Mod to work again on my machine (don't really know what went wrong but it's been out of action for a looong time).

Thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks Joe. Some interesting twists and turns and all very photogenic.

Nice mission, really enjoyed it. There are some secrets I can't find but what's really annoying me is:

I can't for the life of me find the key to the safe in the Museum basement. I looked through this thread and found the hint to look outside Carla's house; I think I've explored the whole map but I can't find Clara's house anywhere (I'm sure I must've missed something).

Aaaah, thank you - I had to up the gamma to spot it 😀. Now to try and find the remaining secrets (got 8 so far).

Feedback based on what I did see:

  • While it was thrilling to hear somebody actually use my ambient music, I did wonder if you perhaps used too many different ambients. With a different one in almost every room there was a bit of "mood whiplash". I'd probably tone down the variety a little: maybe one ambient for the streets, another for all rooms off the streets, another for the museum etc.

 I recommended Joe to use three different ambients in the museum because....

Let me know: why do you thing there were too many ambients in the museum?

On a different note: where can I download your ambients? Have been searching for them since Joe release N&T

EDIT:

I was able to fix this problem now by deleting and reinstalling the entire game.(I saved a backup of the fms folder of course)

Possibly it was just corrupted game data caused by my ailing hard disk, but has had nothing to do with this mission at all.

By the way, I enjoyed this mission very much. Very well done ! ;)👍

 

Same issue for me (Debian/testing, darkmod 64 bits). In console, I only obtain :

I have seen some issues with 2.08 (crazy sound for example.). I have upgraded to 2.09beta and sound issue seems to be fixed. But I cannot take turquoise in museum. Of course, I have opened its case.

Segfault comes just after TDM plays video with the watch in player room.

In 2.08, I've never seen 'new objective'. In 2.09 beta, I seen 'new objective' just before segfault.

Looks like this is on Linux? Maybe you could submit a bug report to the dev team. If it can be recreated every time, then perhaps with a save file (just before it happens) and instructions, they can recreate the problem in the dev environment.

Hello jorbarnin !

 

First of all, congratulations for your mission !

It was one of my favorite, the whole story Is particularly well thought with the time travelling, relationship between characters, the background of the painting and the link to the family if the city

Questions that i have are why are they part if the maps when you might be getting stucked : behind eloise's house and behind the clifton's house ?

And my principal request IS : should you tell me where are the secrets ? I could only find 3 of them so i'm kind of unsatisfied (by my poorsome skills above all)

Don't feel bad about the secrets - I made some of them really hard to find. Unfair, really 😕. The first post in this thread has some hidden spoilers, including hints for each of the secrets. Have a look at those; if you still need some more hints, let me know.

An update, version 2, is now available: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ciesyfcqu1ct6pj/nowandthenv2.pk4?dl=1. This fixes many of the problems found by those who played version 1. Besides general clean up, the primary goal of this version is to

Here is the quickest way to get to the part of the mission that has the crash:

> notarget

You will be clipped "inside" of a small closet - don't move, just grab the painting right in front of you. 

> setviewpos -2461.61 1236.86 -1057.22   22.5 177.7 0.0

Frob the big lever right in front of you. A few seconds of video & audio will play

> setviewpos -447.87 -95.21 -580.38   10.2 -89.8 0.0

You're at the top of some stairs. Walk down the stairs and keep walking for a few feet. The cutscene will play (it lasts a few seconds), and then you'll get a new objective. I think this is about where it crashes for @JBERT .

      I moved from Manjaro Linux (rolling release) to Linux Mint (LTS). One of the reasons was that I found the updates a bit too often and long. But now on Mint I get updates every day, although they're usually small updates.

      I'd like to track my level design progress a bit more often now, so I'm using the feed in my profile here.
      I've been working intensively on Springheel's YouTube course over the past few days. I'm currently up to lesson 8. There is so much information that needs to be processed and practiced. 
      I have started to create my own house. As I don't have the imagination to create a good floor plan, I grabbed a floor plan generator from Watabou and experimented with it. I chose a floor plan that I will modify slightly, but at least I now have an initial idea. 
      I used two guards as a measuring tape: The rooms are two guards high. It turned out that I can simply double the number of boxes in DarkRadiant in grid size 8 that are drawn in the floor plan. 
      I practiced the simplest things on the floor plan first. Drawing walls, cutting walls, inserting doors, cutting out frames, creating VisPortals, furnishing rooms.
      I have had my first success in creating a book. Creating a book was easier than I thought. I have a few ideas with books. The level I'm creating will be more or less a chill level, just for me, where I'll try out a few things. I don't have an idea for my own mission yet. I want to start small first.
      For the cellar, I wanted to have a second entrance, which should be on the outside. I'm fascinated by these basement doors from the USA, I think they're called Bilco basement doors. They are very unusual in Germany, but this type of access is sometimes used for deliveries to restaurants etc., where barrels can be rolled or lifted into the cellar. 
      I used two Hatch Doors, but they got completely disoriented after turning. I have since got them reasonably tamed. It's not perfect, but it's acceptable. 
      In the cellar today I experimented with a trap door that leads to a shaft system. The rooms aren't practically finished yet, but I want to continue working on the floor plan for now. I'll be starting on the upper floor very soon.

      Ich möchte nun mal öfters ein bisschen meinen Werdegang beim Leveldesign tracken, dazu nutze ich hier den Feed in meinem Profil.
      Ich habe mich in den vergangenen Tagen intensiv mit dem Youtube-Kurs von Springheel beschäftigt. Aktuell bin ich bis zu Lektion 8 gekommen. Das sind so viele Informationen, die erstmal verarbeitet werden wollen und trainiert werden wollen. 

      Ich habe mich daran gemacht, ein eigenes Haus zu erstellen. Da mir die Fantasie fehlt, einen guten Raumplan zu erstellen, habe ich mir einen Grundrissgenerator von Watabou geschnappt und damit experimentiert. Ich habe mich für einen Grundriss entschieden, den ich noch leicht abwandeln werde, aber zumindest habe ich nun eine erste Idee. 

      Als Maßband habe ich zwei Wächter genommen: Die Räume sind zwei Wächter hoch. Es hat sich herausgestellt, dass ich in DarkRadiant in Gittergröße 8 einfach die doppelte Anzahl an Kästchen übernehmen kann, die im Grundriss eingezeichnet sind. 

      Ich habe bei dem Grundriss erstmal die einfachsten Sachen geübt. Wände ziehen, Wände zerschneiden, Türen einsetzen, Zargen herausschneiden, VisPortals erstellen, Räume einrichten.

      Ich habe erste Erfolge mit einem Buch gehabt. Das Erstellen eines Buchs ging leichter als gedacht. Ich habe ein paar Ideen mit Bücher. Das Level, das ich gerade erstelle, wird mehr oder weniger ein Chill-Level, einfach nur für mich, bei dem ich ein paar Sachen ausprobieren werde. Ich habe noch keine Idee für eine eigene Mission. Ich möchte erst einmal klein anfangen.

      Beim Keller wollte ich gerne einen zweiten Zugang haben, der sich außen befinden soll. Mich faszinieren diese Kellertüren aus den USA, Bilco basement doors heißen die, glaube ich. Diese sind in Deutschland sehr unüblich, diese Art von Zugängen gibt es aber manchmal zur Anlieferung bei Restaurants etc., wo Fässer dann in den Keller gerollt oder gehoben werden können. 
      Ich habe zwei Hatch Doors verwendet, die allerdings nach dem Drehen vollkommen aus dem Ruder liefen. Inzwischen habe ich sie einigermaßen gebändigt bekommen. Es ist nicht perfekt, aber annehmbar. 
      Im Keller habe ich heute mit einer Falltür experimentiert, die zu einem Schachtsystem führt. Die Räume sind noch quasi nicht eingerichtet, aber ich möchte erstmal am Grundriss weiterarbeiten. In Kürze fange ich das Obergeschoss an.
