  1. Looking at the code, the originals were "pm_mantle_pull 750" and "pm_mantle_pullFast 450". The new "pm_mantle_pull" value is "400". A "pm_mantle_pullFast" value of "450" would be slower than regular pull, not faster. With both being set to "400", they are at least similar. Other than that, it's subjective and the feedback from playtesters was positive. Also, referenced internally here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/22256-movementcontrols-settings-in-main-menu/&do=findComment&comment=489158
  2. DarkRadiant 3.8.0 is ready for download. Please report any bugs or feature requests here in these forums, following these guidelines: Bugs (including steps for reproduction) can go directly on the tracker. When unsure about a bug/issue, feel free to ask. If you run into a crash, please record a crashdump: Crashdump Instructions Feature requests should be suggested (and possibly discussed) here in these forums before they may be added to the tracker. The list of changes can be found on the our bugtracker changelog. Keep on mapping!
  3. That sort of tone doesn't fly in our forums.
  4. I would use this massive list for any fan missions, it includes campaigns too: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148090 There are a lot of Fan Missions for the picking, I myself go for the lesser known ones and the short variety, because sometimes they hide a gem or two. Just like jaxa, I'm a bit outdated after the temporal retirement, but I do remember some amazing campaigns like "The Black Frog". If you intend to play The Black Frog, you should play the first two of the L'Arsene series missions, it's how I did it myself. Also, yes, L'Arsene are a fantastic series. The first mission of L'Arsene is a "rough draft", author was a bit new to Thief level making, but still great either way, after the 3rd you will see how his skill increased by a massive amount.
  5. Unfortunately, TDM forum deletes the separator between the numbers. So I have to guess where one number ends and the next starts Also, user can rename screenshot manually, or push it through something that would rename it automatically. Thenwe won't see coordinates on screenshot address on forums.

  7. Relax @Näkki, it's great to hear you enjoyed the game. My personal expectations were just a bit different when I read the Steam page, although the various trailers should have been a warning that stealth maybe wasn't the biggest priority of the devs. From the Steam page: "Weird west legends meet eldritch horror in BLOOD WEST, an immersive stealth FPS." Also "Blood West is a stealth FPS inspired by the genre classics such as the Thief series (whose fans will be happy to hear the voice of Stephen Russell, the actor voicing the master-thief Garrett, returning here as the protagonist), S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, or - from the contemporary catalog - Hunt: Showdown. The gameplay rewards the careful approach: scouting the area, stalking your enemies, and striking from the shadows. Can you figure out a way to clear a fort full of ghouls and monsters without raising an alarm?" From my personal experience I think the game is predominantly Hunt: Showdown, a bit of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and a very small portion Thief. Stealth is very unforgiving and makes it almost impossible early game when there are various enemies around, but hey maybe I just suck at it. I don't see Deus Ex in it, unless the skill leveling is the Deus Ex part for you and then I have to disagree with you, as that seems like the trait system in Hunt: Showdown. Edit: What I also understood from the Steam forums is that the original VA was dropped close before the release of the full version and replaced by Russell with no real explanation from the devs why this was done.
  8. Of course, it is one of the reasons for the decline of online forums, since the advent of mobile phones. Forums on a mobile are a pain in the ass, but on the other hand, for certain things there are no real alternatives to forums, social networks cannot be with their sequential threads, where it is almost impossible to retrieve answers to a question that is asked. has done days ago. For devs for internal communication, the only thing offered is a collaborative app, such as System D (not to be confused with systemd). FOSS, free and anonymous registration, access further members only by invitation, full encrypted and private. https://www.system-d.org

    2016+ CPU/GPU News

Let's hope the sales of these new graphics cards crash harder than Zen 4 did and they have to quickly lower the prices, as was also done with Zen 4. At least Zen 4 was a good product, outperforming the 5950x in Blender by a healthy 40%. But even offering a competitive and compelling product, which these GPUs are not, won't help when the PC market is in the toilet.

    2016+ CPU/GPU News

Game developers want 16-32 GB VRAM to work with now. They can't always count on these other features, especially on PCs. Having a large amount of VRAM is the easiest solution for reducing latency. Let me counter your DirectStorage idea with another idea: put an SSD inside consumer GPUs, i.e. the "SSG" concept that AMD launched to the professional market a few years ago. Putting a tiny 512 GB SSD inside graphics cards would be relatively cheap, hold the entirety of any video game, and the GPU could still work if it breaks. Just cache the entire game you're playing into the GPU (or everything the GPU wants). Everyone will ultimately want a slab of APU that contains 3D memory-storage, with the CPU, GPU, RAM, accelerators, etc. all together to limit latency. https://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-rx-7600-269-usd-launch-navi-33-8-gb-tackles-nvidia-rtx-4060-1080p/ $270 is on the low end of RX 7600 price estimates (some people wanted $250 obviously). That's not bad for something that is presumably faster than an RX 6650 XT. There will be some complaints about price/performance not moving forward, but prices can drop below MSRP at some point. At this moment though, something like this 6750 XT for $320 soundly defeats the RX 7600, while supplies last. The RX 6700 10 GB is also a good option. If AMD later tosses a RX 7600 XT 16 GB onto the market for $350, then they won the "low-end GPU market" this generation. Edit: AMD did a last minute price drop on the RX 7600, $300 to $270. That 10% is enough to change it from kinda bad to kinda OK.
  11. So, if I understand you, no Thief Gold FM does sound and text notifications of completed objectives? The missions in The Black Parade surely did. I'm completely confused now. I was sure that original Thief Gold had those objective complete notifications (at least the sound). Reading this thread suggests otherwise though: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132977

    2016+ CPU/GPU News

Games are likely to be runnable on your 8 GB GPU, but you might need to turn down settings, or game devs might silently swap in low quality textures to keep performance up on 8 GB GPUs. It's known that Ultra settings tend to be overkill. You will be gaming at 1080p resolution more often if you aren't now. What are "recommended" settings for, 4K resolution? That's why I like to see a detailed table with a few columns rather than old-style "minimum" and "recommended". The people who should be most mad about 8 GB VRAM are those who bought an expensive RTX 3070 or 3070 Ti, thinking they would be doing ray-tracing, 1440p/4K, etc. for many years. But if you are just doing 1080p you will probably be fine.
  13. Greetings everyone! I recently got into TDM and am already having a lot of fun playing through and ghosting missions. However, coming from Thief, I am mostly relying on the rules and my experience with that game, while there are clearly differences in how TDM works. Right now, there is talk in the ghosting discussion thread on TTLG to amend the ruleset and include clarifications pertaining to TDM. So I wanted to drop by and ask: is there an active TDM ghosting community already and have any rules for this playstyle been developed? I would also like to ask someone to take a look at the draft of this addendum to see whether everything looks correct: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148487&page=16&p=2473352&viewfull=1#post2473352 Thanks!
  14. A Problem Arises I've paused subtitling of the Lady02 vocal set, because of a problem with the voice clips described here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/21741-subtitles-possibilities-beyond-211/&do=findComment&comment=490151 While a way forward is being determined, I'll work on a different vocal set. Maybe manbeast, for which Kingsal just provided me the voice script.
  15. To be clear, the AI algorithms that will be creating 3D models, environments, etc. don't necessarily have anything to do with the text-to-image algorithms that are all the rage right now. But they are already being worked on, and will leverage the improvements in GPUs and ML accelerators. (Some of these GPUs are seeing doubling/quadrupling of compute in a generation.) I think I've seen some stuff related to 3D modeling and animation on the Two Minute Papers YouTube channel but I need some time to find them. https://spectrum.ieee.org/mlperf-rankings-2022
  16. Black Parade is released ! https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152429
  17. So giving it none of those tags, but making the AI invisible, silent, non-solid, and on a team neutral to everyone would not work? Oh well, it was a horrible inelegant idea anyway.
  18. Body awareness please. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20013-are-you-gonna-add-this/
  19. I loved it. Awesome game. I faceplanted at the people who asked for quest markers in the Steam forums there... Herr, lass Hirn regnen. The game is so great, and so true to the original, because it doesn't hold your hand. When is the new breed of gamers gonna learn.
  20. Horror themed fan mission - exploration of seemingly deserted keep in the middle of swamps. Spiders, undead, darkness. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story about the fate of my family. My uncle, Ralph Mac Roberts, is the baron of a keep nestled deep within the Rahenaen marshes. It was once an important outpost tasked with guarding one of the few Builder roads that cross the marsh, but after the Inventor`s Guild built a system of nearby dams that flooded the whole land, the road closed and there was no longer anything to watch over anymore. The keep itself needed reinforcement against the raising water level and the trade routes become almost impassable, not only for the carriages but for lone couriers as well. There hadn`t been any messages coming from the keep for over a year and my father was about to assemble a caravan so he could go on an expedition to the keep himself. However, in the middle of the night before he was set to leave, a carrier pigeon landed on his windowsill. My father received the letter and read the apologies from my uncle and his family, excusing their long absence. As a way to make reparations for their extended silence, my uncle invited me to the keep to stay there for a fortnight or so. My uncle had instructed me to leave my horse three leagues away from the keep by the nearest charcoal burning hut and hike the remainder of the road on foot, as the trek through the marsh is treacherous for horses. The weather will be awful this time of year, but my father insists that I should go anyways to ensure that our relatives are okay. These plains become dreadfully deserted - to the point where you more expect to meet the dead than the living. And by the way - I think I`m lost. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj1DVS465udZgVkXteBbr6cUxdPH Thanks: to the TDM team for great tools, and all the contributors for their assets, to betatesters: Amadeus, Bienie, Boiler's_hiss, Dragofer, Filizitas, Judith, nbohr1more, s.urfer, again to Amadeus for proofreading and text tweaks, and to all the players for their time! 21. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  22. BTW, is non power of 2 still an issue with modern hardware? I'm trying to recreate this carpet texture into something more usable, but I can't get it square and work right. EDIT: I mean the texture works fine in game, but DarkRadiant shows black texture in render view, I'm assuming it's because it's np2 EDIT: Hmm, might still be problematic with mipmaps: Most of modern GPUs support non-power of two (NPOT) textures and handle them well. Performance drop is quite little. But there are few problems to consider: When using NPOT texture it takes more space in RAM, just like next-sized POT texture. Technically you just waste the space that could be used to put something in there; NPOT textures may be handled noticeably slower (in OpenGL 2.1 I had up to 30% performance drop) compared to POT of next size; Older GPUs and on-board/on-chip GPUs are not so advanced, they often support NPOT textures, but support is quite slow and clumsy; Even older GPUs may refuse to accept/display NPOT textures at all; There could be edging artifacts caused by mip-map interpolation, your 25x25 texture might have a black fringe where pixels were added to stuff it to 32x32 size.

    New PC advice

My existing 5700G and 6600T PCs could keep me satisfied for a long time. I'm interested in what Zen 5/6 and Strix Point and later APUs bring to the table, but I could probably hold out and never touch the AM5 socket because the 5700G system is more than I need. It helps that I barely care about gaming anymore, but I might look into higher-VRAM GPUs simply for messing around with AI. Eventually, advanced 3D packaging will bring big performance and efficiency improvements (at least 10x) that can't be ignored by anyone, but I assume this would happen with AM6/AM7 somewhere between 2026-2035. A widely anticipated black swan event in Taiwan could screw up the personal computing market much worse than the 2020 global chip shortage, so if you feel the need for more computers, have plenty of cash, and see a good deal, just buy. Grab an extra refurbished PC/laptop like I did for light duties.
  24. Yet another (and the final) hotfix release for 2.09 is available. You can obtain it with tdm_installer. Make sure you check "Get custom version" on the first page, then choose release209b on the second page. If you need 32-bit binary, you can download it as additional archive here. After a very short testing, this hotfix will become the new "default" in tdm_installer, unless any serious issues are detected. Contrary to the usual case, savegames are fully compatible all ways between original 2.09 release and 2.09a and 2.09b hotfix releases. You don't need to finish playing current mission in order to update and even rollback in case of any issues. Here is the list of changes compared to the 2.09a (mainly GL issues on AMD): * Fixed a bug causing black screen instead of main menu with music playing (thread). This problem happened on AMD GPUs and was previously circumvented by setting "r_glCoreProfile 0" in config file. This workaround is no longer necessary. * Fixed crash when new shader is loaded during gameplay (5012). This problem happened on AMD GPUs and could be previously circumvented by setting "com_smp 0", although I'm not sure it ever happened in the wild. Anyway, the workaround is no longer necessary. * Use windowed 800x600 mode as "safe mode" for renderer. It can help avoid initialization error in the rare case the game cannot do ChangeDisplaySettings (related thread). * Removed [cleanup] button from the main menu (thread). Remaining known problems: * The game does not start on old AMD GPUs (TeraScale 1) despite them supporting GL 3.3 (thread). No workaround known. * The game looks corrupted starting at the main menu on some Linux AMD drivers (thread). Workaround: set Color Precision to 32 bits.
  25. Thanks for the replies, gonna try those spoiler Tags again now for my short review (oh well it inserted one above my text now and I can't seem to delete it on mobile - this text editor is strange)
