  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works.

Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

(btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

  2. Hello yesterday i realised that the saving system as used now leads to loot losses i realized that when i found a small golden can for the 3rd time... I use Quick Save and Quick Load a lot, but if you save with a name you have to go to the save menu. reversed that is unfortunately equal. the saves with a name are NOT loaded with quick load... meaning that if i continue after a names save, fail a task, press quick load then my golden can WONT be loaded even while i EXPLICITLY saved that after the second find ...... could you PLEASE stop this annoying process of makeing double effort ?? its nice to have the Quick save, but it breaks the game for real that the quick load cannot load the LAST SAVE .... very annoying and very pitty and not needed at all. hope its very simple to implement. cheers.
  3. I was thinking of trying something different for the loot objective in a mission I'm making. I don't really mind the traditional way, but sometimes it can get the player stuck, and I don't like having to think about a percentage of loot that seems fair (which, I think, depends highly on the mission's layout). But I'm not sure how to go about this. My first thought was that I could make it optional, and show up in the list of objectives as something like (Optional) Get any loot you can find. I tried having it that way for a while and, personally, I think it's fine (except the objective logic doesn't work as I want it to; but that aside). I'm not sure what makes loot fun. But I'm sure we all get some loot, even if it's entirely optional. I'd love to hear some thoughts on this, or even, if anyone has tried different things, I'd love to hear about it.
  4. **Update** As of 2.11 beta 3 these are available in the core mod *** ======================= Older Info: Currency Pack Gets Polished Even More: REVISION 3 HERE -Shader adjustments to the diffuse and specular - still does better with some light to play with -Fallback reflections provided by material specific cubemaps -Non-cubemap options available via packed in skin variant (or just stick with the original pack) -Color corrected inventory icons -Added moveable ingots -includes the sequel to "Iris" titled "currency_test.map" Example of cubemap reflections doing heavy lifting at lower light levels: REVISION 2 REVISION 1 Currencies of the Empire CC0 Loot Pack - Initial Release -Includes 13 new item definitions representing all kinds of loose change for packing couch cushions throughout The Empire -"Loot Lore" in the editor description field, but hey it's TDM and these are basically public domain so do what you like! -Lowest of low tri counts with the highest of high resolution materials. 4 mats for 13 assets !!!
  5. Just finished mission 1 30g short so wondering what I missed, and whether anyones made a loot list for each mission? Also, are there any missions that take part inside the old underground city? That one was my favourite in Thief. Cheers!
  6. Here's a little script that totals up the value of all selected loot in your map: https://github.com/jonri/darkradiant-scripts/blob/main/count_loot.py I made it count selected loot only so that I could select sections of my map and get partial totals in order to make sure the amount of loot is balanced across the map the way I want it to be. Of course, you can also select your entire map and get the full total that way. If this script sounds like it would be valuable to others, I'm thinking about the following additions: If nothing is selected, display the total loot in the whole map If there is a selection, calculate and display both the selected and total amount of loot. I'll get back to making a final version after the contest is over, but just wanted to share it now in case anyone else might find it useful for beta testing. If anyone has any feedback, let me know!
  7. Since Aluminum directed me here ( https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475263 ) can we have unlimited renderer effects? Well, maybe not unlimited, by maybe 3-5? Thanks.

Since I wasn't the one mainly asking, I'll just cite you in the original thread instead.

There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

    4. Nort

      Nort

Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

Reluctance to improve the forums is matched by reluctance to allow more people to work on it. Talk about trust and power.

  11. William Steele 1: In the North, Build 2.10 Can't frob a particular AI's loot, not sure if this is a known issue on map or engine error. Better safe than sorry.
  12. I used to be good at this game, but I took a break to play other games exclusively for a while and after coming back to it, I realise I've become crap at detecting loot. I'm good at dealing with the AI and navigating areas for the most part, but in some recent attempts at new missions I've noticed myself missing far too much loot. So of course I use the tdm_show_loot command to see what I missed, at which point I embarrass myself given how in so many cases I went to a room, looked "carefully" but didn't see anything of value, then the command reveals that there was loot in plain bloody sight! It's been a... tiring year so I wonder if perhaps my concentration just isn't high enough right now, but I also wonder if I've been ruined by newer games. The loot in TDM doesn't do any tricks to make it visible - there's no "shining" effect animation to show me it's something to pick up, there's no X-ray ability to highlight items, and yet so many games have those features that I think I've become soft. What tactics do you folks do when searching for loot? Especially in large city levels where it could be everywhere?
  13. This came up with in the TDM Mission Beta Testing forum. I'm a mission player, not an author, but I'm posting this on behalf of mission author grayman as well as my fellow play-testers. William Steele 6: Baleford Museum is the mission we are currently beta-testing. My request (which I believe grayman agrees with, since grayman suggested I post here) is: Provide a way for mission authors to have an "less than happy ending" option where at the end of a mission, there's an option to go look at the mission statistics, but without the happy music and the imagery of piles of loot. Side note: Wesp5 noted he has an unofficial patch that provides the ability for players to look at statistics at any time: https://www.moddb.com/members/wesp5/addons/the-dark-mod-unofficial-patch - prjames
  14. I want to attempt 100% loot runs of some of my favorite Dark Mod missions. I usually discover how much loot I've found after ending a mission on the stats screen. Is there a way that I can see how much loot is left during a mission?
  15. What the title says - I thought it might be interesting to use actual contemporary art pieces from living artists in the game as some important loot. The reason is mainly that I very much value games with attention to details that you don't notice at first, making them even cooler when you do. Using actual art pieces that are unique and have some value is one of those things from my point of view. I realize this idea will be all about what fits the games setting and what does not. I'm not able to properly judge it as I haven't been around for long, but since it's not really a historical game, merely one inspired some historical period and containing some anachronisms, it seems possible to find stuff that would work. Naturally I'm not coming here empty handed. But I don't know anyone who's doing art that looks like it's from the 1600s, best I could do is abstract art with no specific modern features, that could be made in the victorian era. I can imagine stealing it from a rich eccentric merchant or perhaps a weird cult, but it's no portrait or bust that would fit in a standard hallway. This is the sort of painting that I'm talking about: And there are also some small ceramic statues: These are both from an actual local artist and I could easily get permision to use them. The second one I already tried 3D scanning and retopologizing to see if it's possible with my equipment, and it is. What do you say?
  16. I cant find any topic about this with the search bar. Need a new 2020 Topic for this! Can we have a discussion about garret stealing the entire inventory of a museum but still beeing able to walk and jump as usual? Should the amount of loot the player stole not make noises or more? I am looking into this as there is an inherint issue with immersion and realism. What are thoughts abouts this?
  17. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  18. Hi, I need to know what the code is to use Spoiler Tags. I am using my tablet and I don't have the options to use anything, like spoiler tags, quote tags, text changes etc. Thanks
  19. Still spreading the word about TDM on forums to new peops... Funny to see people say "Awesome, I loved playing Thief back in the day!"

Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  20. Hello I've been replaying a handful of missions, the last couple of days, and a little problem seems to be reoccurring. Some loot, usually blue money pouches is un frobbable; In the mission "Chalice of Kings" v.3.4 there are 2 pieces of loot that I'm unable to pick up. One of the pieces is found in the Library, inside the desk (I think), and the other is well hidden inside the captains room. The last mentioned piece of loot can be tricky to pick up if the thing covering it is pressed inward (so I've read), but I did dabble with it for about 20 minutes, always reloading before another attempt. Never succeed to pick it up. Another mission I encountered an issue with is "Breaking out the fence" v 1.0, inside the safe are 3 blue money pouches, one oblong and two round. I'm unable to pick up one of the round pouches. I'm playing on Expert in both missions. I'm using TDM version 2.05 running on Linux Mint 17.3/Ubuntu 14.04. Does anyone have any ideas about these issues?
  21. Alot of people asked this question in comments now and i kinda want to answer this question. Where does the player keep all the loot? Why is the player still so quiet and not heavier? Can we start a discussion please.
