  1. Body awareness please. https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20013-are-you-gonna-add-this/
  2. So giving it none of those tags, but making the AI invisible, silent, non-solid, and on a team neutral to everyone would not work? Oh well, it was a horrible inelegant idea anyway.
  3. I loved it. Awesome game. I faceplanted at the people who asked for quest markers in the Steam forums there... Herr, lass Hirn regnen. The game is so great, and so true to the original, because it doesn't hold your hand. When is the new breed of gamers gonna learn.
  4. I have assumed that, although there are models made, it is not a simple copy - paste, independent if it is from these repositories or stolen from other games. Regarding AI, it can be a good tool for certain assets, bad only if it is used as a shortcut to create a game and not just as another design tool. The AI tool listed, although it can be create other things, can be used very well to quickly create textures, for example, saving time in the game developement. AI also can be used to create classical paintings, much used in TDM, without any copyright problems, things like this, and maybe even better adapt to the plot as the same paintings used since several Years now, apart of the one I made for the Black Mage. It is clear that stealing designs from other creators is very ugly and certainly a bad path, which is why I have said that piracy is not necessary, with the free and open-use resources available. You surely have other sources of these, apart from the list What I put.
  5. i am looking to play this FM and can't wait to try it next week. It looks like a good FM with a vast & open ended area to explore. I am getting swamped by TBP this very time
  6. Thanks for the Vicuna link. I need to do more research on open source chatbot solutions. I have a couple of projects in the works that would benefit from a home grown language model, plus it would be good experience. Seeing what others have done with modest resources is good inspiration. Also I must admit I was wrong earlier in this thread about open source not being able to compete with big tech. It did not occur to me that big industrial model builders would be incentivized to gift their own models into the public domain in order to gain mind share with open source ecosystems that can out-innovate them on the application side. The upside for them is that they can effectively crowd source the R&D to turn their fancy tech demo into actually valuable products for the open market and for their own internal consumption. Google at least is taking that concept seriously. Lastly: The results of a couple of gpt-4s attempts are fascinating to me... I got some really interesting failure points, including a rare pattern hypnosis where it fell into a meaningless cycle of iterative modulus calculations. But I doubt you guys want to read 4 pages of that, so here's the beginning and the end. Note for anyone wondering what is going on, the root mistake is a heuristic error humans also make: assuming no one would ask a stupid question. Thus the pattern recognitions assumes we want the complex systematic solution for the closest hard problem... which is what it gives above. Moreover because the question is so minimal it actually half asses its answer here: ignoring the fact that it already knows next Easter falls on March 31, 2024 from reading online calendars! What's more, it has more than enough information in its memory to attempt the computus calculation (albeit unsuccessfully in every attempt I saw). Once again we see that context is king for LLMs. In fact we can even break it out of the faulty heuristic with a small change to the prompt:
  7. IMO points like that assume that content is put in an encrypted / binarized package that can't be easily opened with common software (see Unreal or Unity asset packages, etc.). PK4 is a plain zip archive and everyone knows how to open it. Edit: I had similar problem in the past, with a piano music composer who allowed some of his works to be used in video games, free of charge, but on the condition it was part of a larger file where you couldn't access his audio files.
  8. Hi, this mission is crashing on my system and I cannot go on. Playing "Hidden Hands - The lost citadel" Version 6 on Fedora Linux Version 38. I paste the whole output of the console below. Perhaps someone can find the cause for the crash, that would be very nice [stefan@fedora darkmod]$ ./thedarkmod.x64 TDM 2.11/64 #10264 (1435:10264) linux-x86_64 Jan 30 2023 02:02:43 /proc/cpuinfo CPU frequency: 899.998 MHz 900 MHz Intel CPU with SSE & SSE2 & SSE3 & SSSE3 & SSE41 & AVX found interface lo - loopback Found Intel CPU, features: SSE SSE2 SSE3 SSSE3 SSE41 AVX TDM using AVX for SIMD processing. 9. That is up to the mission designer. Locked doors can be opened if an NPC has a key; optionally, NPCs can be allowed to open doors even if they don't have a key. In this case, the modder has explicitly allowed the priest to open that door, even if they don't have the key. I assume that the mission designer wanted this behavior (maybe the priest has an extra key?). I can see why you'd want the other behavior - it was clever to relock the door.
  10. Horror themed fan mission - exploration of seemingly deserted keep in the middle of swamps. Spiders, undead, darkness. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story about the fate of my family. My uncle, Ralph Mac Roberts, is the baron of a keep nestled deep within the Rahenaen marshes. It was once an important outpost tasked with guarding one of the few Builder roads that cross the marsh, but after the Inventor`s Guild built a system of nearby dams that flooded the whole land, the road closed and there was no longer anything to watch over anymore. The keep itself needed reinforcement against the raising water level and the trade routes become almost impassable, not only for the carriages but for lone couriers as well. There hadn`t been any messages coming from the keep for over a year and my father was about to assemble a caravan so he could go on an expedition to the keep himself. However, in the middle of the night before he was set to leave, a carrier pigeon landed on his windowsill. My father received the letter and read the apologies from my uncle and his family, excusing their long absence. As a way to make reparations for their extended silence, my uncle invited me to the keep to stay there for a fortnight or so. My uncle had instructed me to leave my horse three leagues away from the keep by the nearest charcoal burning hut and hike the remainder of the road on foot, as the trek through the marsh is treacherous for horses. The weather will be awful this time of year, but my father insists that I should go anyways to ensure that our relatives are okay. These plains become dreadfully deserted - to the point where you more expect to meet the dead than the living. And by the way - I think I`m lost. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj1DVS465udZgVkXteBbr6cUxdPH Thanks: to the TDM team for great tools, and all the contributors for their assets, to betatesters: Amadeus, Bienie, Boiler's_hiss, Dragofer, Filizitas, Judith, nbohr1more, s.urfer, again to Amadeus for proofreading and text tweaks, and to all the players for their time! 11. Sure, let's then just add a couple of settings to the menu: Shoulder body: frob/use Extinguish candle: frob/use For some reason we have an "Open Doors on Unlock" setting and surprisingly (for me) it is set to "Yes" by default. I don't quite understand why doors should open automatically and expose me but I guess back in the day there was a similar "Thief does it" discussion that fortunately ended up in truce.
  12. It's just my opinion but that just doesn't happen in TDM spaces. I used to love the TDM discord - it was kind of quiet but it was mappers talking about mapping and players talking about playing. But the fact it is clearly a unmoderated space with basically no rules where itinerant weirdos can roll in and post transphobic slurs and then respond to mild pushback with a torrent of abuse in messages they then edit and delete, or post reams and reams of text in any channel that are completely off topic that all reads like it's been transcribed from the walls of a padded cell, or where the limited discussion about the game itself seems often to be about how it is bad (with some users posting over and over again about how they don't even play it), or as @Dragofer points out users who just want to relentlessly discourage and criticize anyone who is not a small handful of authors to the point they try and make issue not even with the work itself but the motives of doing the work, just makes the whole thing feel like a chore at this point to me. It also makes it feel kind of like this forum. Which means if you are going to have to be in one in order to feel like you contribute why not just settle in here. So yeah, I left.
  13. Yes, I can open the safe, but the alarm starts. I wanted to avoid this....
  14. Thanks, already had the those, but had spent half an hour trying to work out how to open the doors to the big cage to get to the control panel inside. Assumed it was another mini puzzle.
  15. Lets test some bats! You'll need at least version 2.10b5 for testing (Dragofer added "animal_patrol_wait" which is needed properly behaving bats). I've tested the bats in my testmap and now they are ready to be let loose and tested in your maps to see if everything works as it should. Think about free roaming in (very) large spaces and small spaces. Also maybe have them follow paths, I didn't test that, and other things you can think of. The bat can by default be killed but has no ragdoll, instead it has a deathScript that makes the bat disappear with a visual effect. Maybe someone wants to make a ragdoll for it? Set spawnarg "noDamage" to "1" to have invincible bats. The blender files can be downloaded here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/815315205483397142/936191315845206046/Bat2.0_Blender_Files.rar The files needed to have bats in your map are in the attachment. There are 2 different sized bats and there is also a red test skin for both. I added the original tdm_mage_effects.fx file in the fx folder as an example how it works so you can easely make your own visual effect for the bats deathScript, if you wish. Update 2.01: Fixed aas, size, mins, maxs in the .def. Should work fine now, I hope. Bat2.01.rar
  16. I think a little dynamics to the windows (with light) on various buildings would add quite some life to the dark mod. A first step might be to just simply animate the brightness of *some of* the window texture slightly and randomly +/- 5% or so to give the impression of a candle burning inside. Windows that are close to rooms - for example a window next to a window that you can open could perhaps be enhanced by shadows moving inside (for example when a guard/person is moving by). Not sure if this have been suggested before, or if this at all possible. Personally I think it would add a lot of life to the game and make it less static in places.
  17. Congratulations joebarnin! Real nice mission. After using the 3 keys @ cathedral, I am stuck in the basement with droids, unable to open the door to the chamber in the center.
  18. After a long time and a lot of delays, I'm extremely happy and relieved to announce the release date for my first map; Lords & Legacy, on Friday the 30th of August, 2013! Lords & Legacy v.2.1 Resume: Screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/Lj8UJ#0 Notes: Build time: 2013/03/30 - 2013/08/30 To install, simply put the .pk4 file in your fm folder and install from the in-game mission menu. It is a large mission with optional objectives, so make sure to save often. The ropes in the beginning have a 'slick' surface, to simulate being 'slack lines'. They are difficult, but once you get a hang of the slide they can be fun. A couple of the large areas can be a bit rough on performance, and can be improved by adjusting the LOD slider in video options. A few of visportals open only when you get close. This is to keep the frames smooth inside the respective building, due to early inexperienced design. If you find any bugs which affect the gameplay experience, then you're very welcome to post them here, but please use the spoiler tags. Big thanks to 'Obsttorte', 'Springheel', 'Greyman', 'Bikerdude', 'Sotha' and rest of 'The Dark Mod Team'for all the help, guides and tricks. Also thanks to the other TDM users who provided fantastic support and feedback during the build. Thank you for beta-testing: 'Bikerdude', 'TylerVocal', 'Simplen00b', 'nbohr1more', 'Briareos H.' Special thanks to: 'Danus', 'Dsx' & 'Stanleh' for testing, help and support. v.2.0.1 changelog: Bugs: -The "Master Thief" challenge was impossible to do for a while, due to incorrect values. Fixed. -Getting seen by "The Killer" now also fails the "Ghost" challenge. -The 3 cardplaying guards no longer float mid air, as their chairs are now nailed to the floor. -Fixed the sound of the furnace continuing after the flames were extinguished. -Fixed weird glittering on the power cables around the map. -Fixed some moonlight popping in and out. -Fixed openable windows in Commons, clipping into the frame. -Fixed a book dropping through a desk. -Fixed visportals closing too close in Lancel's Tower, slight hit on performance though. -Added more monsterclip to Service Tower and Robert's Tower's entrance. -Improved a few vis_portals with func_portals. -Replaced curbs in Slums and Commons with some more detailed versions and changed textures. And a lot more little unecessary tweaks. Gameplay: -Added new challenge: (Jack White) - Do not knock-out anyone. -Reduced the amount of starting gear, depending on difficulty. -Added cubemaps to most windows on the map. -Redid most func_statics in Commmons Quarter to reduce tris and increase performance. Draw count is still somewhat high. -Removed all transparent windows as they didn't have actual gameplay value, just a performance drain in exchange for glitchy visuals. -Lancel's safe can no longer be picked. Find the key! -Added a couple minor cosmetic details in the sewers. -Moved a coinpurse from a wealthy commoner's sleeping butt to his nightside table. Also adjusted his furniture so thieves can better move around. -Changed sounds for several doors across the map. Once again, a big thanks to 'Bikerdude' for taking the time help out and locate room for improvement! v.2.0 changelog: Bugs: -Fixed various textures and surfaces and a few minor tweaks. -Tweaked some sounds to be in line with TDM 2.0 changes. -Fixed 2 certain AIs being too sensitive rather than drunk. (Thanks to AluminumHaste!) -Tweaked LOD on some objects, to prevent windows "popping" in and out. Gameplay: -Added more monsterclip to the towers, so the AI can now run up and down stairs. Only the stairs in the small tower has issues still. -Added more monsterclip in the city so the guards can follow you up all stairs. -Added a few minor details. -Windows in the city now dims sound, resulting in less aggro from guards and more convincing soundscape. -Reduced 'draw calls' in all the large areas, increasing performance. The map is still heavy at certain areas. Another big thanks to 'Bikerdude' and 'Greyman', for taking time out of their own schedules to help optimize the map's draw count and other significant adjustements! v.1.0.3 changelog: Bugs: -Fixed 4 black chairs in one of the towers -Fixed a floating painting -Fixed several clipping objects v.1.0.2 changelog: Bugs: -Fixed zfighting in the library's bookshelves -Fixed a black window in one of the towers -Fixed several typos in readables Gameplay: v.1.0.1 changelog: Bugs: -Fixed an issue with the main objectives not being in "sync". -Fixed console spam from a script Gameplay: -Adjusted required loot for each difficulty from "3000, 4000 and 5000" to "2500, 3500 and 4500".
  19. I know what you mean. Springheel used this once in a tutorial for traps, but in the end I just copied his methods and didn't understand much. However, there is a different S/R application I understood and I find very handy. If you pick a random frobable entity, go to S/R and click on responses, you can select the Stim "Frob". If you then press the right mouse button in the response effects area, you can activate effects such as: clear/add targets on AI turn off/on lights play sounds remove items run scripts change frobability set skin trigger entities set light color Unfortunately, the last one (changing the light color) doesn't work so well. I have noticed that this effect is reset when you save and reload the game. However, I have not yet noticed this with the other effects (and frobability/remove works perfectly, I use them all the time. But that's only one of the possibilities, certain stims, as I understand it, work on approximation, and you can do cool things with them. There's also a Wiki entry written by Sparhawk, who coded it. Unfortunately I don't understand much there either. I don't even dare to ask, because Geep has already done so much, if he could revise this section and provide understandable examples for both stims/responses. @Geep Didn't you once open a topic in which you explained the use of stims? That was very informative, but unfortunately I can no longer find it.
  20. Hello, newbie Dark Radiant user here, and I'd like some advice with a small problem I've been having. I was following Fidcal's "A to Z Beginner Full Guide", and got up to Page 4 where I tried making a path for a patrolling AI. The problem is the AI doesn't seem to like doors (which I created all the way back in Page 1). I did a test build where I simply deleted the doors to see if it was a problem with the brush or walkable surfaces, but the AI can move through all patrol routes normally under those conditions. With doors, however, I have a number of problems: 1) When a closed door exists between the AI and the first path_corner it's aimed at, it refuses to start walking. 2) If I open the door manually, the AI starts walking, goes through the open door, closes it, moves to the path_corner, waits, turns around and walks towards path_corner2, opens the door, and just stops. 3) If I open the door manually again behind the AI, it turns around to start walking towards path_corner2, but then just stops. I tried using "tdm_ai_showdest 1" to see if I could identify any problems, and the AI is obviously heading towards its next target path_corner, but the presence of a door (open or closed) seems to stop it in its tracks. I feel like I might have missed something during door creations that's causing this problem, but I'm not sure what it is...
  21. Deleted 5 disappointing unfinished games last night that I'd downloaded recently, and that's not counting Last of Us 2. That at least had a lot of good things enough to make it playable to the (unsatisfying) end. Most recent was A Plague Tale: Innocence. Now this has a huge amount of stealth but it's a third-person, rigid corridor world, albeit with great medieval graphics - probably the best graphics I've seen. Dark Mod would be brilliant with this engine and resources. But spoilt by zero game saves except the single auto save inventory and last checkpoint, endless replaying of frustrating puzzles (which would have been brilliant with a little optional info and hinting when needed) resulting in me having to play several utube walkthroughs else I could not continue. (Can't help thinking there should be a law about games that are unfinishable without outside help (sometimes unfinishable for many of us even with help, see following.) So yes, the ultimate killer for me was occasional forced combat but especially big boss fights: You play a 'weak' teen girl hampered by having to help her sick little brother along. Now this appealed to me because I played Fallout 4 over TWO YEARS to all 4 endings on difficult setting. Yes, it's 1st/3rd person switchable! Discovered the most fun was before you got loads of armour, power weapons, when it was far more edgy, so played on Survival level. Finished that then started again, designed a 'weak' teen pampered girl who wouldn't wear any armour because none of it was 'fashionable' and she refused to murder humans (yes, it is just about possible to finish the entire game that way, and if anyone wants details, post here. You need some imagination to immerse in your own personal fiction) Then I played it again as this teen but with NO companion to help and NO perks. So imagine my delight when I read about 'Plague' with loads of stealth and a weak girl protagonist. But back to the boss fights. Your only weapon is a slingshot your dad taught you an hour ago! Later (feels like almost the same day) you fight a big brute of a guy in heavy steel armour, in a confined space. I ran around trying to find a way out, then reluctantly tried my sling but my little stones just bounced off his armour (surprising that.) Oh, yeah, by the way, he has only five sentences he repeats endlessly during the 50 or 100 replays I had to endure before killing him. Anyway, I had to go on utube to see you had to hit key points on his armour until parts fall off and finally his helmet. Maybe that's a common trope in games? But last night, captured by the English army and trying to escape, I had endless frustrating tries (really good tough stealth though) before reaching the gate without killing anyone. But then there's a staged (everything is bloody staged) combat with 5 enemy rushing at you. I managed to kill two before being over-run again. And again. And... after 5 times I exited in disgust and wiped the game. If you don't mind occasional tough combat mixed in with good stealth then I recommend Plague even though it is third person. (might be a first person mod on PC?) The newer Hitman 2 I mentioned elsewhere was spoilt by third person. Abandoned during the tutorial. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has 3rd person stealth but I wasn't enjoying the forced combat, third person, and silly jumps instead of genuine climbing. The Outer Worlds has some first person stealth but had no immersive character/story for me so I soon found I didn't really care what happened. Endless weak humour trivialises everything you do. Zero tension. I couldn't get excited about finding spare parts for my vacuum cleaner bot. Far Cry 5 was the most playable, stealth and huge 1st-person open world and whatever combat you want/don't want. But about 15 times during the game you magically get a dart in your leg, are captured and have to endure staged frustrating corridor taunting torture events (this literally feels like Ubisoft torturing the player.) Plus, I read you can't really ultimately 'win' in any satisfying way at all (worse than LOU2.) The best I could do was start again, complete the small island tutorial, then set yourself as a rebel. Fuck the Cult, fuck Dutch, and fuck Ubisoft. Play as a rebel opportunist thief who's daddy got him the job of sheriff's deputy. Don't play Ubisoft's game. Refuse to be their hero. As a looter/thief you seize the lawless opportunity to make a fortune (I aimed for $100,000) then make your 'imaginary' ending by 'escaping' the inescapable valley. You can run up the hill behind the giant YES sign until you hit the boundary warning and pretend its says WELL DONE! YOU HAVE FINISHED THE GAME! or there's what I think is a nicer 'exit' to the right of Hurk Drubman's house - right fork there is a tricky but do-able rock climb, then pretend the hollow beyond that has an old tunnel out of sight. Make sure you find out how to backup the single gamesave (VERY important) and do it VERY regularly. Now, regard the 'Resistance Points' as 'Get noticed by the Cult Points'. Instead of trying to GAIN RPs you must AVOID them at all costs. To do this you cannot liberate any cult outposts nor kill any VIP cultists nor release any captives nor destroy cult property. Shoot any captives first else if they're not tied up they'll run off and you'll be 'penalised' with RPs. An alternative of course is to tolerate a few RPs so long as you don't cross a division in the list. Apart from looting, there's LOADS of treasure stashes to find. And just cruising around is great fun for a while. Not sure it's worth full price for this game though. So, any recommendations for good stealth, first person, preferably open-world games on PS4?
  22. had to build my own replacements as well due to prices being silly atm coupled with the fact that im disabled old and near my retirement days anyway so i probably wont be out there anymore jobbing to get income for the latest and greatest in PC components . You can get pretty far with some second hand materials though and im quite happy with how my current gaming PC has turned out ->. for mainboard i used the old but still gold asrock z97 extreme6, it was one of the first boards to support nvme (albeit with a few pitfalls like disabling one of the x16 pcie slots). It has thunderbolt 2 support (via addin card) and you can even add a wifi/bluetooth adapter via a mini pcie port (laptop models). the cpu is the devils canyon 4970k (refresh of the 4770k with higher clock speed), ram is kingstons 2400 mhz ddr3. For a gfx card i went with a gigabyte 1080 ti OC which was one of the less pricey models (it is white... the cooler felt like a piece of cardboard and it has no backplate) it runs quite fine though except it got pretty hot in demanding games so i outfitted it with the rajintek morpheus 2 core edition cooler and oh boy is that cooler something... downside it fills 4 pcie spaces and weighs a ton upside i can run anything at ultra in 4k at a playable framerate without turning it into a furnace (newer gets above 62 "). DLSS is a nogo though, you can enable it but the performance hit is rather drastic so dont!. AMD's fidelity fx can also be used and it runs a bit better with that but still raytracing was before this card so not recommended to enable. without this gripe it is actually a solid 4K card. the case i used is the lian li lancool 3, this one is a bit odd but also has some interresting stuff. The glass sidepanels are opened by pulling the alu front bars yep dont forget it or else the bottom mesh sidepanels are magnetically locked in place which is cool except when you figure out that 3 of the ssd mounting rackets are located on the right sidepanel so you have to use really thin and flexible wiring because else it would pop the panel open constantly (the magnets cant hold a lot). Also if you plan to use a big hunking PSU like my old corsair 1000W you loose two mounts for older 3.5 " harddrives (yep it is that big) so i went with a smaller 750W corsair cause i still have a few of the 3.5 " drives in use for storage. cpu cooler is the renowned artic freezer II 360 AIO top mounted ( do not mount AIO's on the bottom like some idiots do you break the cooler that way cause the fluid would newer hit the pump, if you have to mount it otherwise use the front intake and the hoses should be at the bottom of the case not the top! sadly many AIO's use pretty short hoses so that is not allways an option in that case go for a good air cooler instead like the noctua NH-D14 or the dark rock from be silent ). This little thingy puts up quite nicely with todays tasks win11 is also in reach since it does support TPM 2 (still have to get the add in card though) the cpu is not supported officially but it runs quite fine with it (yep i tested it, dont like win11's mac alike interface though so for now i stay on win10) need a small tweak to get the installer to accept it (registry key) but other than that no problem.
  23. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.
  24. Very nice short mission, the atmosphere was top notch. The rain pouring in the open window and down the stairs... but rainy atmosphere is hard to beat anyways. Only thing to be aware of is that the mission won´t end if you have any open objectives, they are not optional here.
  25. Is that Thief Gold or Thief 2? Make sure you do the following: Install Thief Gold. Start Thief Gold one time, if you have it on Steam, so that it creates/updates the install.cfg. Install TFix (preferrably the Lite version, as, obviously, some mods don't play well with the full TFix with mods). Set up Thief after that, resolution, control scheme etc. Then open the cam_mod.ini in the Thief Gold root directory, and remove the ";" before "fm" in the "always start the FM Selector (if one is present)" section. Next time you start Thief Gold, it should show you the FMsel loader (and, hopefully that error message is gone), which lets you load the FM.
