The cool part of Canonical's Snap, is that my machine can now ray-trace an entire (simple) scene faster than it takes the web browser to start!

Snap is complete garbage. Another useless me-too duplicate project by Canonical that nobody else will ever use and will hopefully go the same way as Mir once Canonical come to their senses and start using FlatPak like everybody else.

Bachelor Mapping Challenge!
The girlfriend will be away to her mum's place for almost a week, which means more mapping time for me! I'm planning a speed build. Hope it will go my way
I'm starting by downloading 2.11. Don't know if I'm going to use any fancy new stuff. Just want to crack those itching map muscles that has gone dry and dead since almost a year's worth of no-mapping

Happy new year!
I thought that I wouldn't like "House of the dragon" because I didn't like the ending of the predecessors.
I am now pleasantly surprised; until episode 7 the focus is on dialogues, I like it very much...besides, I am now allergic to all the violence orgies. I can't take it anymore.
All this senseless violence in Westworld, Game of Thrones, Colony, Walking Dead...or maybe there is something wrong with me anymore.

@chakkman JackFarmer said he didn't like the ending of the predecessors, which I interpreted to mean he didn't like how Game of Thrones ended, a view I strongly agree with. In my case that doesn't mean I don't like Game of Thones, hell I was a big fan at the time... at least until the final season. The way the series ended just destroyed any sense of rewatchability given all the fan theories and drip-fed mysteries basically accounted to nothing and so much character development was ultimately wasted. That was my fear with House of the Dragon but it sounds like it's decent enough to give it a shot.

@Xolvix Ah, I overlooked the "ending". Ok, but, I don't think the last season was so much more violent and brutal than the rest of the series. Of course, there is some violent stuff in the series overall, but, hey, middle age fantasy and stuff. I even think it added to the series. Just "fits" the Game of Thrones theme somehow.
The last season was definitely bullshit, but not for the violence. Already in the first episode, I wonder WTH the makers smoked to bring such uninspired and absolutely not fitting the rest of the series stuff. I even stopped watching after eipsode 3, and skipped the rest, because I didn't want to spoilt the series as a whole. That's how bad I think it was. As if someone hired a high school kid as a story writer for the last season.

Game of Thrones fell off the rails because the two guys behind the show were excellent at adapting stories already written for them by George R.R. Martin. They weren't so good once they ran out of book material and had to come up with new stories though.
Interestingly the violence never put me off when watching Game of Thrones, but I can certainly understand when someone gets fed up with excessive violence being used in a lot of media and they just want something a bit less brutal. I feel the same way occasionally, it can get exhausting.

The Dark Mod 2.11 is out!

Hey @nbohr1more Media page on website is borked:
https://www.thedarkmod.com/media/
(it looks like the Nextgen gallery plugin doesn't work anymore sitewide)
Edit: Ah somebody seems to be working on it now. I wonder why a description list is used though..
Having a lightbox + slideshow plugin would be a good idea.
Maybe it's also good to upload some more (recent) screenshots and/or other media? We could make some sort of competition and the highest ratest screenshots will be placed on the media page? This could also influx some more TDM play (of 2.11).
-
Congratulations!
(I find it odd that there isn't an open topic to congratulate the Team for the release).
-
Congrats - gonna test it out ASAP. Thanks a lot for your hard and constant work. It is great to see the game evolving further!
-
I love playing The Dark Mod when it's cold in my place. Bonus points when it's a bit (or even very) dark and it's raining, too.

AMD 6xxx users, there are some credible reports that the latest WHQL driver "Adrenalin 22.11.2" is allowing the GPU to damage itself due to either thermal or electrical variance. Revert your driver or enforce power \ thermal limits where possible.

Sounds like you're safe to me.
Everyone should probably be under-volting AMD anyway from what I've heard.
The story goes that they push the voltage up to ensure that bad silicon has a better chance of testing at the rated clocks so they will have more chips to sell. I'm sure it's an industry wide practice but I imagine consumers would rather that bad silicon get sold at lower prices with lower clocks (etc) than pushing all chips to the brink just so they can squeeze out 10% more high-end sales. -
Do you remember the "AMD Killer" event? It's like Nvidia and AMD are trying to give the new Intel ARC very little competition to do that again, but...No, I really doubt it that this time one company or the other is doing an incredibly scummy (yet typical of every corporation) tactic to defile its competitors. This time, it's absurd incompetence from both Nvidia (4090 and 4070 Ti) and AMD (Not even the 7900's new thermals are good)
-
There's no need to undervolt, just set a lower power limit. The current is the killer if the physical problem is the overheat and not some capacitor/dielectric explosion (that's how voltage damage works, errors apart due to how undervolting practices makes computation/processing unstable)

Anyone have a copy of the old training_demo.pk4 "timedemo benchmark"? I cannot find it in my old files collection.

Nope. Not that I can find. If it was there, they seem to have removed it.
-
Maybe specifically ask people in this thread:
Just an idea
-
If you know it was on a current site, you can try archive.org to see if they have it cached in a past snapshot.

I just dreamed that I was on a Dark Tranquility concert and then the vocalist took me out of the massive crowd on the stage just to leave it with me and the band together. We went to the back stage where they showed me a game they were developing with the crowd outside waiting for the next song. Then we went out for dinner and ice skating in an abandoned mall. lol

It's funny how perception changes over the years. I've been replaying Bioshock in its Remastered version, and I'm surprised how bad the level design actually is. It's just a series of abstract corridor mazes that you can't really map out in your head. There's nothing that would ground them in any kind of reality, fictional or otherwise, no sense of place people could live in. It's almost like Wolfenstein 3d with cool art deco assets.

What kind of level design should new Bioshock franchise invent? Open, connected world?
I don't think it has to invent anything, just use human architecture as a reference, and create places that look like they are lived-in. First Bioshiock was released early in X360 lifecycle, so that might explain abstract levels, but the technology is definitely there now
I guess one of the explanations for large blocky layouts could also be that there had to be a sufficient space for Big Daddies to navigate and fight.
-
Well I mean it was based off System Shock initially, so I think a lot of that design comes straight back to gameplay. It's funny because I'm the weirdo who vastly preferred the last game. I like the style of Bio1 but something about it always struck me as it feeling like a chore to complete every time I've played it. You get YouTubers like the Act Man who treat it like it's an untouchable legend but I never had that kind of admiration for it.
I can agree the level design and overall layout, definitely lends a hand to this sentiment.-

Since the disrupting of #Twitter by a crazy ego-distopic-manic-dangerous-billionaire and meta-shit by Zuck is not an option (because it's *exactly* the same thing), are any of you or the TDMproject in some free and open #Mastondon or #fediverse server ?

There's now image gallery functionality on the wiki. I asked taaaki to enable this and he did.
See here for an example:
https://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=The_Hare_in_the_Snare:_Part_1_(FM) (scroll down to the Gallery section and click on one image)
You can still have the old functionality by middle click on an image.

Wow, that's cool!

This new Twitter block looks kinda bad on the Forum's dark theme. Also, why is this info shown here on the forum anyway?
I would like to see an option at least to disable it.
Although I guess I could use some css..
Edit: This seems to do it:
/* Remove Twitter timeline */ .twitter-timeline { display: none !important; }
-
It seems it can only be set to either black or white, independent of users' theme.
It seems quite a few of us didnt know that the Twitter account was still in active use.
-
You can't make it transparent?
But like I said, there's no point in having a twitter block on the forum. If you want to follow, use twitter, but it should not show here.
