  1. UPDATE: Beta testing is now open to anyone interested. --- Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and also to mapping in general. I've spent about 3-4 months learning DarkRadiant and creating a new FM for TDM. Now, I could use some help running the map through it's paces. Mission description: In the northern town of Eaton, Lord Mayor Zelmer is hosting a lavish party at his luxurious estate... Most of Eaton's elite, the Queen and a famous musician will all be partaking in tonight's festivities. I plan on making the map available for testing over on the "TDM Mission Beta Testing" forum as soon as I (hopefully, fingers crossed) have received a couple of replies I've tried my best to make the mission as interesting as possible, but I fear that I may have made the plot a little too convoluted - hopefully not though. During the Beta-phase, I am also hoping to recruit one or two voice actors, but I'm not quite sure if I ought to look into this separately. Any advice on this would also be greatly appreciated. Generally speaking, all the important voice acting is already present, but I would love to replace one poorly acted scene and also to have some non-essential dialogue recorded by someone other than me and my partner (and preferably by a native English speaker). Thank you for your interest and thanks in advance to anyone interested in beta testing. I promise to be as receptive as possible to any feedback I receive.
  2. Keep in mind also that mission size, and complexity have increased dramatically since the beginning. For a lot of veteran mappers, it can take over a year to get a map made and released. The last dozen missions have for the most part been pretty massive, with new textures, sounds, scripts, models etc. We seem to be long past the point of people loading up the tools, and banging out a mission in a few weeks that's very barebones. We still do see some of those, but I noticed in the beta mapper forums and on Discord, that mappers seem to make these maps, but don't release them, and instead use the knowledge gained to make something even better. Could just be bias on my part scrolling through the forums and discord server though.
  3. Having finished up a number of voices for LarryG, Gort, and Goldwell, I am open for any other voice work that may be needed. I have gotten great reviews as a Lord, Guard, Scientist, Drunk and Ferrymaster, and would love to put my voice to work for YOU! I’m pretty good at mimicry, having done lines to match one of the Lord voice sets, and could probably match others...pick one and let me try for you. Contact me here, and listen to Dark Mod and other demos at http://www.everybodyandme.com/demos.htm! Also, on the advice of one of the developers, I took a look at the Cynic voice set, and think I can do a pretty good job mimicking that one.
  4. YOU TAFFERS! Happy new year! Deadeye is a small/tiny assassination mission recommended for TDM newcomers and veterans alike. Briefing: Download link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JWslTAC3Ai9kkl1VCvJb14ZlVxWMmkUj/view?usp=sharing Enjoy! EDIT: I promised to someone to write something about the design of the map. This is in spoiler tags below. Possibly useful to new mappers or players interested in developer commentary.
  5. Seems to confirm: https://bugs.thedarkmod.com/view.php?id=5718 does it happen in the latest dev build: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/20824-public-access-to-development-versions/
  6. Mapping while listening to Sothas soothing voice with his lovely finnish accent, explaining how awesome modular building techniques are :)

Please do! TDM accent-o-galore, for great justice!

Serves them native english speakers right... :D

Not gonna happen with mapping, but I might stream some TDM missions and use a phat swedish accent, littered with finnish curse words though! ;)

      Sotha

I look forward to it! ;) For that purpose, I should make you a special mission full of unfair insta-kill traps, teleporting flaming (area damage effect) revenants, deadly jumping puzzles and a save functions disabled. "Pärkkele, finne!" ;)

  7. You guys/your friend have decent microphone and software for recording editing and have done voice over before?
  8. Did a great find today: Quake 4 mods for dummies. Now online readable. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/topic/5576-book-quake-4-mods-for-dummies/?p=412644

  9. Alright, Seeking Lady Leicester: Gold... I mean, Version 2 is up. This features new voice lines, some quality-of-life fixes, as well as some obscure bug fixes. For this update it would be best to delete the FM entirely and then redownload it from the in-game downloader or the Google Drive/Onedrive links. But as always, if you are in the middle of a playthrough, you don't need to update this FM if you don't want to. This will likely be the last update to the FM for a good long while.
  10. https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/tags <- directx 12 wrapper for dxvk https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/tags <- directx to vulkan wrappers D3D 9 to 11 eg. dxvk if you want to try it with horizon zero dawn you need to copy out dxcompiler.dll from Tools\ShaderCompiler\PC\1.0.2595\x64 and bink2w64.dll from Tools\bin and place them next to HorizonZeroDawn.exe. then copy over dxgi.dll from dxvk and d3d12.dll from vkd3d and place them next to it to. now fire up the game and let the shaders recompile -> profit.

  12. Hey, long time player of the Thief series here, and I've been kind of following the progress of TDM in the shadows... I was wondering if you guys need any more voice work done? I've got access to a studio, a decent voice, and I'm eager to help. I can also get some samples recorded this weekend if you guys want some. Just trying to help

He changed ita long while back, it was so he was using the same name as he uses on other forums.

  13. Since there was no explanation yet. Based on my experience, the portal sky texture only works when being on the border of a visleaf. Hence, the comment for the necessity of a visportal. So in my earlier attempt I just put the texture on a random brush in the middle of the map, which was then transparent instead of the skybox texture. However, creating a proper door out of a portal sky brush is still tricky, when it comes to immersion. Once the door/visportal is opened the portal sky texture looses it's effect and will turn transparent. Which means, it works but looks strange to the player. So there should be a way to blend from the portal sky texture to the new texture from what you see behind. Also it might be necessary to stack two doors behind each other, that will be opend together, Otherwise you would end up having a transparent door from the side of the portal texture (once it's opened). Even though the wiki was just mentioned when it comes to objectives. Alternatively you can also listen to Sothas calm voice
  14. Hi! Been a while since I mapped now... Been at the computer for at least four hours to try to make an easy conversation between two actors...Almost about to throw in the towel on this... I want the player to walk up to a lady and talk to her and when he does, the camera should change to a view from behind the player. I will add an AI in front of her to simulate the player. The thing is, it works if I don't use/target the camera (a func_cameraview that targets a target_null entity), but as soon as I switch to the camera view the conversation just ends. I have tried to change the camera in the middle of the conversation and yes, the talking just stops... I have tried to consult the snitchmap but I just don't get why my conversation just dies when I switch to the camera... (And yes, I have tried to teleport the player to be beside the people talking but it's not the problem. And it shouldn't be important either because the conversation shouldn't start until the player walks up right in front of the lady.)
  15. Just want this for experimenting. I know about notarget, but im looking for something that completely kills everything on the map.
  16. No, I was just joking. But, I'm happy to help. I assume it's just a couple of lines that you need and I'm fully ok with recording them several times and playing around with my voice. Prestige is all I'm looking for .
  17. It doesn't matter if it's not commercialy realistic or not; this is a thought experiment. So, my thoughts... Main plot: Kind of generic revenge theme in many movies but the originality would have to be in the implentation. Garrett married, settled down, and mostly honest (but does the odd thieving on the side.) His teen son/daughter (also called Garrett since I've always assumed it's a surname?) learns from him. Because Garrett is a loose cannon, the Keepers send an assassin who kills Mr and Mrs Garrett (perhaps not knowing they have a child.) We now play the son/daughter called Garrett and (if male) with the same voice actor Stephen Russell or a good soundalike thus providing continuity. Our main purpose is to destroy the assassin and possible the entire Keepers organisation. Keep all the old classic tools/weapons/armour/features with new ones for added interest. Find a way for player to use that remote eyeball camera thing. Highly three-dimensional open-world with tons of rooftops, etc. and lots of optional sub-missions. Optional companion(s) to work with Garrett. The player chooses how long they stay with him (or not at all.) So you might want a specialist safecracker or rock-climber or even just someone who knows the way to wherever you're going. Optional third person pov that can be switched easily during the game (like Fallout 4). Note that I do not like 3rd person myself but many do. And even if playing 1st person, it's sometimes handy/fun to switch back and forth to check out your armour or location. Optional, in-game switchable difficulty level with always a super-easy level. I'm sick and tired of abandoning games that are just too hard even on so-called 'easy'. Failing that, some kind of in-game tiered hint/clue/spoiler so when you're totally stuck, you can refer to character's own notes for example. Or maybe somehow use looted gold to buy help or maybe looted magical objects that provide inspiration, guidance, whatever. Nobody should ever fail, just have different levels of success. I'd even accept a walkthrough option rather than abandon. Remember, this is all optional.
  18. You surely mean there's some kind of audition and if our voices are to your liking, there'll be a free trip to some caribbean island for the recall included. But I'm willing to lower my standard for this instance and do it from my secret voice recording chamber instead.
  19. I think the reason the dev forums exist is to provide a place where the implementation of features can be discussed without getting mixed up with other debates when someone believes what the devs are doing is wrong. We often post public discussion threads for features with subjective elements like the frob outline, because community feedback is very important. But there will always be vocal defenders with strong views for or against certain features, or how exactly it should be implemented in their opinion. At some point a decision has to be made and be carried through, which is what the dev forums are for. Almost all of the threads are very technical, basically explaining and discussing recent or potential code changes with other devs. Its hard to say. Its a hobby the devs do in their spare time, so people come and go when they're in the mood and when they have the time. The team page is mostly accurate except for some relatively newer additions like myself.
  20. I just read@motorsep Discovered that you are able to create a brush, then select it and right click "create light". Now you have a light that ha the radius of the former brush. Just read it on discord and thought it may be of use for some people in the forums here too.
  21. Wrath of Khan trope all the way! Necromancer brings Karras back from the dead and he lures Garret into increasingly dangerous jobs until Garrett gets trapped in a crazy Karras compound and is taunted by the "ghost" of Karras. ( Alternately some protege or relative of Karras who wishes to avenge him, ideally a relative who has a similar personality and voice. ) Game would use an open source engine like Amnesia or The Dark Mod but would obviously have non-CC commercial assets. Mission authors can sell new fan missions or offer them for free via the in-game mission store.
  22. Hey, I need someone to voice a merchant, sort of low noble. Sort of new money lol The noble voice would do, but it's a bit posh. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the script. I have two parts. Noble type and a steward (not fussed about type) Thanks Neon
