  1. Is there something wrong with the forums lately, or is it my browser? I've been having trouble formatting posts, and just now I couldn't format anything at all.

    I'm using Vivaldi.

    Usually I have to: select text, click bold, nothing happens, select again, click bold, then it works. 

    Same for other stuff, like creating spoilers, bullet points, links. Nothing works the first time.

      I have no problem. I use Firefox. @Zerg Rush also uses Vivaldi. Have you tried without extensions, or in another browser?

      (btw. bold, italic and underline have shortcut keys: Ctrl B, Ctrl I and Ctrl U, you could try that)

       

  2. If any mappers have encountered weirdness with kill objectives not working with drowning AI, I think I've found out why. I don't think it would be a particularly difficult one to fix either.   3. looking for holy water proof and meele resistant clothes . Currently in speed potion cold turkey. Duh i must train myself to be as agile as fireshadow, Mages are inferior compared to me!

  5. A switch triggers water to rise. How can I go about making this happen? Searched through the forum & the wiki, possibly overlooked the solution. Figured posting would help expedite the process. Thanks for any help.
  6. As requested, a test map to illustrate the issue of water effects not rendering through warp glass. Original thread starts here: https://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?/topic/9082-newbie-darkradiant-questions/page/437/#comment-475239 tagging @duzenko In the attached map, there are 3 glass windows looking out over 3 different types of water. There is a rain weather patch above it, and a rainsplash patch directly above the water. The middle window is clear glass, and the outer ones are clear warp. You can see that the water isn't visible through the warp glass, nor is the rainsplash. The rain itself is visible through all of them though. render.map

      There already is a kind of sorting, sort nearest, sort decal, sort <n>. For things like windows and such, sort nearest should probably have the desirable affect, though looking through multiple translucent shaders might kill performance.

      Is having multiple render effects really killing performance that badly? I don't understand. You're saying that if I have two transparent objects side-by-side, then they'll just count as two render effects, but when combined, they somehow become something much more difficult to render?

      Never-the-less, unless we're talking some kind of infinite portal problem, why not let the mapper choose how much he wants to kill performance? Just warn him against putting too many effects close together.

      Yeah and the wiki and moddb. It should have those links in the footer I think. Probably easy to add by an admin.

      Edit: And a link to the bugtracker. I'm always searching for a post in the forum that links to that because I can't remember the url.

  11. Not so long ago I found what could make a pretty good profile picture and decided to try it out on these new forums. But I couldn't find a button anywhere that would let me change it. I asked on Discord and it seems Spooks also couldn't find anything anywhere. So I logged into an old alternative account and, lo and behold, that account has a button. This is on the first screen I get when I: 1) click on my account name in the top-right of the browser -> 2) click on 'profile'. Compared to my actual account: Are you also missing this button on your account? It'd be very much appreciated if that functionality could be restored to any of the affected accounts.

      Yes it was in a discussion where someone was saying how unhappy they are with the way game companies grant themselves permission to do whatever they like to your PC and personal info today. I pointed out that giving up games completely is an unnecessarily overkill solution when there are free games like TDM to play.

  15. Shadow maps of 2.07 interact with water surfaces differently than stencil shadows. The array gets projected on the water surface as well as on the bottom, yet no smoothing is applied. Screenshots might be more eloquent (These were made in beta of Marsh of Rahena FM). Should this be denoted in bugtracker?
  16. Good day Darkmod team, I have been playing Thomas Porter series, and I did enjoy those. Currently on the Transaction episode. The battle with the lich took me off guard for sure, but I liked the decision to look outside player's comfort zone. However, I was totally unprepared for the battle, since I used all my water arrows to douse crucial light sources and free the girl; as such I had HW, but could not use it properly. As such, it sparked couple ideas in my head. 1) Ability to apply holy water on the sword, like applying poison on daggers type of scenarios, to make melee fight vs undead more effective; same consept as applying HW on water arrows. 2) Make HW as a throwable flask, like in TDS, turns into a puddle of water deadly for undead. I'm not talking about next releases, but is any of it worthy to consider?
  17. So yeah as by the title you can gather I'm attempting to gather good shader and MTR info on completing good water. What's paining me most is that I can't get even relatively close to good reflections and it's bugging the hell outta me. I've got a pretty snazzy material that can provide worthy generic reflection (from say a cubemap of the skybox) but that can't constitute the water line of shore, docks and buildings. This brings me to the planar reflections of a stock material I found called "textures/water_source/cave_water_reflective_01" { qer_editorimage textures/glass/glass1 translucent noshadows nonsolid { blend blend mirrorRenderMap 1024 1024 program fresnel.vfp vertexParm 0 0.6 fragmentMap 0 _scratch } }This simply doesn't work if you're using a normal skybox, as the mirrorRenderMap stage doesn't recognize the skybox projection and reflects a backdrop relative to seeing a leak. However what it will do is achieve the water line reflections I seek. At the mercy of recasting and rendering every single shadow in the map (yikes!). Now I'm not accustomed to the workings of the vfp but is it possible to condense/create a simpler one that doesn't relist shadows twice? I only need the silhouette that the planar reflection can provide as it wont be used wholesale as the primary effect. My goal is to layer this reflective pass (to gather waterline reflection data) and then fill in the blanks of a skybox backdrop manually by layering in a cubemap blend. Then what you'd have is proper world reflections, decent sky and cut the additional shadow cost. In the end it would be some fancy water, without the fancy overhead budget. I'm no expert to these materials so if anybody has a simpler method to getting that water line, I'm all ears.

Hi guys, through the "cheats" topic I got the idea, that it would be quite useful, if there were tags for missions (the post was about removing the killing restriction in some missions to suit the prefered play style). I don't know how easy or difficult this is, but with them, it would be quite convenient to pick missions with playstyles, environment, etc one does want to use. This could also be expanded to other mission properties. I remember a discussion about climbable drains, handles on doors, that cannot be picked and other things the map author chooses for himself. That way these things would be clearer and as I said before, it is easier to choose missions with playstyles that suit oneself. What do think?
  19. So I am currently tweaking some things in my mission relating to dousing lights, I am curious how everyone puts out a light source playing TDM/Thief. As far as I can tell there are two ways, either you aim for the light source directly to douse it or you can aim above the light source and let the water fall onto the torch/candle/etc which douses the light as the water comes down. I personally do the latter because I find it is more accurate as the water has a wider spray range and it avoids sending mobile objects flying around the place. But what does everyone else do?

  21. I select holy water; hit use; a clock comes up and starts ticking off 30 seconds; I shoot water arrows at the skeleton guard; hit him in the face twice and nothing happens. It doesn't even slow him down. If anything, it just makes them run right at you faster. I don't think holy water works. If you have to shoot him a dozen times, it's pointless. It's a bow and arrow, not a machine gun. I don't get it.
