What was the bug tracker # for that another issue?

Wasn't able to find a bugtracker issue for it, but I found the thread where it was discussed. The changes took place around the 21st of March (i.e. rev 15880-15882).

I'm not even sure whether the code or only the assets was changed, but I've never seen this black lamp issue before 2.08, and now it comes up regularly and is fixable by adding quotation marks. This is even though stgatilov found a piece of code in the linked thread that suggests this shouldn't have an effect ingame.

Sounds like an easy fix at least. I'll have to add that to the list of updates going out for my missions.

Another amazing mission!

I loved the Thieves' Highway and the black market merchant's shop especially, but it was all great. I continue to be amazed that people can create such terrific missions.

I finished with a stealth score of 9 and only two knockouts. It's hard to tell, given the mission setup, how much loot I was still missing but I think I was about 1,500 short. And I only found 2/7 secrets.

There was one small bug I encountered though:

Spoiler

The contract where I had to falsify the bookbinder's records didn't quite work. I got the scribbling sound and the "goal complete" cheerful sound but I did not get paid.

Also, LOL

Just finished SoN Act I.

Superb intro video. Very professional.

I liked that while at first the map looks large, the scope is contained and you don't get overwhelmed with side quests or endless non-essential locations. I liked the setup with non-aggressive guards and how the act gets introduced well into the mission (excellent touch). The shop always is a nice addition but I didn't find much need for any of the tools other than the rope arrow which, surprisingly, and given the setup of the second part, wasn't of much use need either.

I had a peaceful thieving experience in two gorgeous locations. Looking forward to Act II! Oh and...

Spoiler

The skeleton scared the hell out of me. You got me, ok? Movie-like thrilling moment with no resolution. Perfect.

Something I noticed: The mission has the tittle:

Shadows of Northdale ACT I

With a capital letter i, instead of a 1. This means it's listed in the mission selection screen right under ACT 2, instead of above. Changing it to 1 in darkmod.txt fixes this.

Yeah I noticed that too, I do have plans to rename the missions so that they flow more naturally in the mission selection screen.

Thank you for bringing this up! I’ll look into it and see if I can find a solution.

There are a few bugs with this mission that I need to resolve so it’s a bit overdue for some fine tuning.

I tested this. Frobbing the paintings in the first screenshot (using v.2.12 on Windows 10) gave me no crash.

I'm concerned that Shadow of Northdale might be broken in its current state in 1.12.
Which is a shame because I was finding it very enjoyable!

Here's what I think may interest you:

Quote

Initializing scripts
WARNING:file \fms\northdale1\northdale1.pk4/script/automap.script, line 12: redefinition of 'IM_MAP'

Error during initialization. Error: file script/tdm_report.script, line 22: Unknown value "getPersistentFloat"

This error only happened when I've loaded SoN1 and it stops when I delete SoN1 from the fms folder. I've verified this across several installations.

I do not know how else to help but I wish you luck if you suspect I'm right.

What operating system are you using?

Edit: I just loaded up and started this mission, and, as I had assumed, no problems with it here. The console also doesn't spit out the error message you posted. Yes, I am also on Dark Mod version 2.12.

With my very limited knowledge (I know nothing about scripting), taking a look into the script, it looks like it has something to do with a variable used for the mission stats screen after the mission end.

Are you using tdm 2.13 dev or beta1? If yes try updating the mission first. I think there is a fix for this. Check download missions in tdm.

I'm not sure how this works on both 2.13 and 2.12 .

Yes, it is.
The mission is already updated for 2.13 in the missions repo for the beta.

Please download the 2.12 version from this direct link.

Weird that it works here. Maybe I'm still on the old version then. I'll check.

Edit: Looks like I was on an older version indeed, there's an update available in the mission updater for me. Sorry for the confusion.

This mission is crashing for me with an "error during initialization; file/script/tdm_report.script; line 22 unkown value "get Persistent Float." I can't even start the mission with Dark Mod version 212.

If you downloaded the mission via the in-game downloader recently, you probably acquired the version that was updated to work for the 2.13 beta. It's one of the few missions for which the update is known to break in 2.12. As per all the discussion above, look at @stgatilov's post for the previous version known to work with 2.12.

A word of warning, Agent Denton. This was a simulated experience; real LAMs will not be so forgiving.

Thanks very much stgatilov for the download above. It's working.

I will mention a pitfall to avoid here,
when I had both versions in the fms folder, the non-updated one had no cutscenes, no objectives listed and it hung the game on a black screen on mission start. I didn't come back to the problem for many days, but deleting the old fm pack seemed get it fixed.

Again, thanks everyone who tried to help. Hopefully all your questions may be laid to rest. I'm a happy camper now

more details here

I ran into the same problem, with TDM 2.13 (on Linux) and the current version of the the mission downloaded through darkmods integrated mission downloader.

This happens with several paintings, but not all.

I noticed the following in the console output right before the crash:

DEBUG: entity atdm_loot_painting_medium_4 was frobbed and frob_loot runs

Trying to load image models/darkmod/props/textures/painting03_l_d from frontend, deferring...
Trying to load image models/darkmod/props/textures/painting03_l_d from frontend, deferring...
signal caught: Segmentation fault

In all crashes I observed there's those messages about models/darkmod/props/textures/painting03_l_d - maybe that texture is missing? OTOH, even if it is, a missing texture shouldn't cause a crash, right?!

I ran testImage models/darkmod/props/textures/painting03_l_d in the console and it correctly showed a picture (see this screenshot of part of the darkmod window).

No idea why that particular texture would be loaded at that point, it's not the picture I was stealing..

If I first run testImage with that image and then frob the picture, the "Trying to load image models/darkmod/props/textures/painting03_l_d from frontend, deferring..." message does *not* turn up, but it crashes anyway.

I moved from Manjaro Linux (rolling release) to Linux Mint (LTS). One of the reasons was that I found the updates a bit too often and long. But now on Mint I get updates every day, although they're usually small updates.

I'd like to track my level design progress a bit more often now, so I'm using the feed in my profile here.
I've been working intensively on Springheel's YouTube course over the past few days. I'm currently up to lesson 8. There is so much information that needs to be processed and practiced.
I have started to create my own house. As I don't have the imagination to create a good floor plan, I grabbed a floor plan generator from Watabou and experimented with it. I chose a floor plan that I will modify slightly, but at least I now have an initial idea.
I used two guards as a measuring tape: The rooms are two guards high. It turned out that I can simply double the number of boxes in DarkRadiant in grid size 8 that are drawn in the floor plan.
I practiced the simplest things on the floor plan first. Drawing walls, cutting walls, inserting doors, cutting out frames, creating VisPortals, furnishing rooms.
I have had my first success in creating a book. Creating a book was easier than I thought. I have a few ideas with books. The level I'm creating will be more or less a chill level, just for me, where I'll try out a few things. I don't have an idea for my own mission yet. I want to start small first.
For the cellar, I wanted to have a second entrance, which should be on the outside. I'm fascinated by these basement doors from the USA, I think they're called Bilco basement doors. They are very unusual in Germany, but this type of access is sometimes used for deliveries to restaurants etc., where barrels can be rolled or lifted into the cellar.
I used two Hatch Doors, but they got completely disoriented after turning. I have since got them reasonably tamed. It's not perfect, but it's acceptable.
In the cellar today I experimented with a trap door that leads to a shaft system. The rooms aren't practically finished yet, but I want to continue working on the floor plan for now. I'll be starting on the upper floor very soon.

On a lighter note, thanks to my cat-like reflexes, my superior puzzle skills and my perfect memory, I was able to beat the remastered version of "Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation" in a new superhuman record time of 23 h : 35 m, worship me!
