nbohr1more Posted February 14, 2022 Author Report Posted February 14, 2022 @Jedi_Wannabe thank you for the consideration. It will be up to the other authors to decide if you can join but I hope they all agree to it. I can understand if they decline though. 1 Quote Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod: http://www.indiedb.com/mods/the-dark-mod (Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Either way, I finally released, and that’s all I wanted, to put something out for folks to play. I’ll be happy no matter what. Amadeus Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 Bring Jedi on too! For me, at least, the whole point of the contest was to have fun creating something under a deadline. Bring him onboard Amadeus knows all the woes of my Duke Nuke’Em Forever dev cycle, haha. How many times did I push my personal deadline back? 10 times over the past two years?! I personally am happy with what everyone decides either way. While I was aware in the back of my mind the contest was happening, I’ve been oblivious up until today what’s been talked about. Seeing the influx of betas over the past few months did help light a fire under my ass to push my map out, so thanks for that. But I’m not here for fame or glory, simply making and releasing a map and having anybody at all play it and enjoy it is already a 10+yr long dream come true for me Edited February 14, 2022 by Jedi_Wannabe 1 1 Quote As my father used to say, "A grenade a day, keeps the enemy at bay!" Wellingtoncrab Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 I am fine deferring to the other authors if they have no concerns, but if there is any concern at all about fairness in Iris being submitted, which is the impression I got from that original post, allowing it to participate in the contest mechanically, but not be eligible to win seems like a good middle ground to me as far helping out the community vs keeping the contest fair. Again I am not invested in the outcome of the contest, but am invested in the Dark Mod and am just happy we are getting so many great missions to play and that I could finally get mine out! 4 Quote -= IRIS =- ♦ = SLL =

Dragofer Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 To be honest contests are first and foremost there to get people to enjoy mapping together, the contest result is inconsequential (though Id definitely say the contest mechanism is an important part of the experience). We've already got a multi-author FM in a mostly single-author contest that literally builds on a released mission - so I think that ship has sailed. Let's let all join who submit missions before voting ends. My only conditions would be that each FM describes: 1) what other FMs their story connects to 2) what new TDM features were used, if any 2 Quote FM: One Step Too Far | FM: Down by the Riverside | FM: Perilous Refuge Co-FM: The Painter's Wife | Co-FM: Written in Stone | Co-FM: Seeking Lady Leicester Dragofer's Stuff | Dragofer's Scripting | A to Z Scripting Guide | Dark Ambient Music & Sound Repository
thebigh Posted February 14, 2022 Report Posted February 14, 2022 I might have liked the contest to have been a bit more structured and with fewer changes during the contest, but the goal is to showcase 2.10 so I understand why the contest part is almost secondary. Perhaps the next contest could be another speedbuild or unusual gameplay contest, with more solid criteria. 1 Quote My missions: Stand-alone Duncan Lynch series Down and Out on Newford Road the Factory Heist The Wizard's Treasure A House Call The House of deLisle

Jedi_Wannabe Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 Wicked awesome. Is there anything else I need to declare about my map, or is the summary notes in my linked thread in the OP enough for y’all? Thanks guys. Wellingtoncrab Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 I added the 2.10 feature list to my mission post, though admittedly I couldn’t quite bring myself to bluntly layout the nature of the connection(s) in the mission so I’ll take my knocks scoring wise there. 1 Quote -= IRIS =- ♦ = SLL =

nbohr1more Posted March 18, 2022 Author Report Posted March 18, 2022 I have collected the raw scores and applied corrections where votes were mistakenly placed according to the threads. I still need to calculate the weighted scoring ( gameplay has a 3x weight, etc ) and ensure that the features bonus votes are restricted to 30% of the votes. Anyway, I am being kicked off my PC for now so if someone wants to calculate the scoring early here are the raw scores: Connection_Contest_ Raw.txt 2 Quote Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod: http://www.indiedb.com/mods/the-dark-mod (Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

Popular Post nbohr1more Posted March 19, 2022 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 19, 2022 CONTEST RESULTS! 1) Winner: Wellingtoncrab "Iris" 97.08% 2) Bikerdude, Amadeus, Dragofer "Written in Stone" 95.28% 3) Kingsal "Hazard Pay" 95.06% 4) thebigh "Down and Out on Newford Road" 81.01% 5) Jedi_Wannabe "Paying the Bills 0: Moving Day" 77.64% There was a little controversy about the gameplay score in PTB0: Moving Day. If I remove the votes from that user, the score becomes 79.92% so the results do not change. To cap bonuses to 30%, the math became a little convoluted: Spoiler 1) Take the number of votes and multiply by 0.3 ( 27 * 0.3 = 8.1 ) 2) Split that 8.1 into the constituent percentages of the bonus votes. So 6 perfect votes * 2 for two 2.10 features and 2 perfect votes for a 2.10 asset ( highest possible scoring ) becomes 14 total votes with 6/14 of the bonus being one 2.10 feature and 2/14 being the asset bonus. Multiply 6/14 * 8.1 = 3.47 3) Add the 3.47 value to the perfect five score votes ( 15 + 3.47 ) and multiply that times 5 4) Do this for each category and multiply each by it's weight ( 1, 2, or 3) 5) Account for the added vote scoring in the total possible denominator 30 * 0.3 = 9 ( a 3rd of the perfect voting ) Total Votes X 30 ( max possible score ) + 8.1 ( 30% of voting ) * 9 ( 3rd of the vote ) + 5 ( connection score ) (27 x 30) + (8.1 x 9) + 5 = 887.9 possible points ( if perfect ) 6) Add all the category scores together and divide by the max possible score from step 5 Here is my calculation scratch pad: Connection_Contest_ scratchpad.txt 1 5 Quote Please visit TDM's IndieDB site and help promote the mod: http://www.indiedb.com/mods/the-dark-mod (Yeah, shameless promotion... but traffic is traffic folks...)

I, along with so many others, remain astounded that this was your first release, and I dearly hope you are able and willing to continue. I think the biggest winner, however, was the entire community, because we get to play all these wonderful FMs. Thank you, mission authors, thank you so very much! 2 Quote

Goldwell Posted March 20, 2022 Report Posted March 20, 2022 Congratulations @Wellingtoncrab Your mission is absolutely incredible, one of the most refined and well built city missions in the entirety of TDM (imo).
